Job Description

Pearce Services seeks a Telecommunications Lead Installer - Level IV to manage installation, reconfiguration, removal, and maintenance of carrier central office and data center equipment in Buffalo, New York. This leadership role supervises crew members while executing complex transmission, power, infrastructure, and fiber system projects with minimal supervision.

About the Role

The Telecommunications Lead Installer - Level IV directs detailed installation and maintenance operations on mission-critical telecom and data center infrastructure. Working as a lead with assigned team members, you will manage projects involving AC/DC power systems, high-density fiber installations, and supervisory/alarm systems while ensuring all work meets industry and customer standards. You will independently perform complex installations and troubleshoot technical issues while overseeing the quality and accuracy of crew deliverables.

Responsibilities

  • Master all installation skills per Telco Standard TP76300 and perform all Level 4 duties with high competence as a working lead with assigned team members
  • Execute comprehensive equipment installations including AC/DC power systems, low/high-density fiber systems, central office and data center infrastructure, and supervisory/alarm systems
  • Install and configure transport equipment including Ciena, Fujitsu, Cisco, Nortel, Nokia, DELL, and Juniper systems
  • Apply deep understanding of fiber installation standards and procedures
  • Lead installation projects from planning through completion
  • Read and interpret Method of Procedures, specifications, floor plans, equipment documentation, and wiring schematics
  • Ensure accuracy of all project documentation and comply with system updates for company and customer installation records
  • Interface with customers, vendors, and internal teams during equipment testing, turnup, and integration activities
  • Supervise lower-level installers and technicians in basic installation and testing requirements
  • Review subordinate time and expense documentation for accuracy and completeness
  • Resolve project-related issues using defined processes
  • Generate Methods of Procedure (MOPs), high-risk activity reports, work schedules, test records, and project completion reports
  • Perform in-process and final quality audits to ensure work meets or exceeds industry and customer standards
  • Physically place, remove, and modify working and non-working equipment
  • Install cable trays and racking superstructure from engineering drawings
  • Install telecom and data equipment including cabinets, frames, servers, switches, routers, repeaters, bridges, gateways, multiplexers, transceivers, and firewalls
  • Install DC power systems, BDFBs, and fuse panels with associated cabling
  • Identify, label, measure, terminate, and route cables for AC/DC power and data transmission in technical spaces
  • Conduct testing and document hardware and software performance characteristics; determine efficiency, reliability, and compatibility with existing systems
  • Perform system power-up and integration activities
  • Perform daily quality validation on in-process and completed work
  • Comply with all company policies, safety procedures, and administrative requirements

Requirements

  • Minimum 8+ years of installation experience, or combination of experience and training as determined by company management
  • Prior leadership experience required
  • High school diploma plus two years of technical school, or eight+ years of combination training and experience in communications installation
  • Ability to apply common sense to written, oral, and diagram instructions; ability to resolve problems with variables in standardized situations
  • Proficient laptop computer skills and experience with standard applications
  • Full understanding of company/customer policies, procedures, and safety requirements
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams)
  • Valid driver's license and ability to pass pre-employment background checks and insurability verification
  • Valid passport preferred
  • Unrestricted travel throughout the United States required; ability to work variable shifts and travel extensively
  • Ability to vertically lift 50 lbs
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders, and crawl in tight spaces
  • Compliance with OSHA standards
