Job Description
Enphase Energy seeks a Field Service Technician for a 6-month temporary assignment in Chicago, IL to provide on-site support to distribution and installation partners. This role involves traveling up to 50% to service PV and battery storage systems, coordinate site visits with homeowners, and perform diagnostics and maintenance on Enphase microinverter installations.
About the Role
This position is based in Chicago, IL and requires significant travel within an assigned territory, including out-of-state trips, overnight stays, and extended assignments of up to two consecutive weeks. You will work independently with minimal supervision, managing problems from identification through resolution while maintaining strong communication with scheduling teams, homeowners, and Enphase Customer Support.
Responsibilities
- Travel up to 50% within assigned territory, including out-of-state trips and overnight stays of up to two consecutive weeks
- Service Enphase PV and battery storage systems in residential settings
- Perform onsite testing and diagnostics to evaluate system performance and identify issues
- Conduct microinverter maintenance and update the Enlighten monitoring system to reflect all changes
- Complete solar maintenance reports and required documentation accurately and timely
- Coordinate site visits and serve as liaison between scheduling team and homeowners
- Perform work on rooftops and elevated structures regularly
- Install and route conduit, copper piping, and flexible tubing; pull and manage DC/AC wiring as needed
- Utilize standard field tools including drills, levels, squares, tape measures, and ladders
- Review system designs and develop job-specific bills of materials (BOM/BOS)
- Train and mentor team members on proper installation techniques and best practices
- Maintain tool inventory and adhere to tool management standards
- Participate in regular safety training and adhere to all company safety protocols
- Follow OSHA safety standards and prioritize safety above all other considerations on job sites
- Respond promptly to customer needs and deliver high-level customer service
- Drive continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance processes, efficiency, and workmanship standards
- Possess valid identification acceptable for air travel to meet domestic travel requirements
- Work outside regular business hours as needed
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- 2+ years of experience in electrical installation and service
- Commercial or residential electrical license
- NABCEP (North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners) certification
- Valid state driver's license with clean driving record; must be insurable
- Proficiency with computers and ability to navigate multiple applications
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Ability to read and interpret plan sets
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Strong time management and organizational skills; ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities
- Detail-oriented with focus on accuracy and quality
- Knowledge of and commitment to safety and security procedures
- Ability to follow instructions and respond constructively to feedback
- Sound judgment and decision-making skills
- Flexible and adaptable; able to manage change, delays, and unexpected challenges

- Ascend and descend ladders as required
- Perform work on rooftops and uneven surfaces, including at heights and in confined spaces
- Work in outdoor environments in various weather conditions and tolerate exposure to electrical hazards
Benefits
Hourly rate range: $29–$42 per hour, based on experience, skills, and location. This is a 6-month temporary fixed-term assignment.
