Journeyman Electrician

Sunrun, the nation's largest residential solar and battery company, is hiring a Journeyman Electrician to lead solar installation crews in Austin, TX. You'll supervise teams of 3–6 installers on residential and small commercial photovoltaic projects, ensuring safety, quality, and on-time completion.

About the Role

This is a working field leadership position. You'll coordinate all aspects of solar installation projects, from material staging and crew training to final inspections and customer communication. The role combines hands-on electrical work with team management and accountability for safety, quality, customer service, and crew productivity.

Responsibilities

• Lead and train a crew of 3–6 installers on residential and small commercial solar installations
• Oversee all phases of project execution to meet timelines and quality standards
• Ensure OSHA compliance and enforce safety practices throughout each installation
• Conduct hourly progress checks and resolve on-site issues to maintain safety and productivity
• Verify adequate materials and equipment availability before and during projects
• Maintain project documentation and photographic records according to company procedures
• Interface with customers throughout the construction phase
• Perform electrical installation duties including DC/AC wiring, module installation, and system integration
• Complete weekly vehicle safety inspections
• Collect customer payments and deliver to management
• Verify accuracy of timesheets for yourself and crew
• Provide feedback to management on constructability and site conditions
• Conduct service calls when needed

Requirements

• Valid Journeyman Electrician license or equivalent per Texas state and local requirements
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Current CPR and First Aid certifications (company reimburses certification costs)
• Current, up-to-date NEC code book and knowledge of NEC standards and applicable electrical codes
• Experience with electrical wiring up to 600 VDC and 480 VAC
• Ability to perform all installer and lead installer duties on photovoltaic systems
• Valid driver's license; 5% travel required
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word
• Strong mechanical and construction skills with attention to detail
• Excellent verbal communication and documentation abilities
• Demonstrated capacity to manage multiple tasks, lead people, and motivate crew members
• Professional appearance and customer interaction skills
• Ability to transport materials and equipment up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds with assistance
• Ability to work safely on rooftops, in attics, basements, and confined spaces
• Ability to work in varied weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, humidity) and outdoor noise levels
• Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and use fall protection equipment safely
• Ability to work safely with hand tools requiring fine motor skills
• Ability to distinguish colors (red, black, yellow, white, green)
• Ability to hear verbal commands and warnings
• Ability to work with chemicals and heavy protective equipment as required
