Job Description
Sunrun is hiring a Lead Installer for residential solar installation projects in Shrewsbury, MA. In this role, you will coordinate a crew through daily installations while maintaining hands-on technical expertise and ensuring safety standards across all job sites.
About the Role
The Lead Installer is a core member of a residential solar installation crew responsible for completing projects while guiding and coordinating fellow installers. You will combine technical installation skills with crew leadership, and may assist with battery storage installations or serve as acting foreperson when needed.
Responsibilities
- Verify crew truck inventory and supplies at the loading dock before each job
- Layout, assemble, and install solar modules, racking systems, structural mounts, and electrical equipment according to project specifications
- Apply weather sealing to roofing structures and mounting surfaces
- Assemble support structures and mechanical components as specified in project plans
- Maintain clean, orderly job sites and perform project cleanup including client areas and installation vehicles
- Lead crew through safe, effective, and efficient installation workflows
- Provide technical expertise, mentoring, and hands-on support to crew members
- Ensure personal, crew, and job site safety at all times; identify and report safety hazards
- Participate in mandatory training on new products, installation methodology, and safety protocols
- Assist with solar battery installations when assigned
- Act as foreperson in the foreperson's absence when needed
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous solar installation experience required; equivalent construction or military experience may be considered
- Valid driver's license and ability to pass a driving background check
- 21 years of age or older
- Clean driving record
- Proven ability to work safely and encourage safe work practices among crew members
- Ability to establish rapport and communicate tactfully with customers and coworkers
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and performance metrics
- Willingness to participate in cross-training and Power+ programs across departments
- Strong problem-solving and logical decision-making skills
- Ability to work independently and as a team player in fast-paced environments
- Ability to transport materials and equipment up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds with assistance
- Ability to work on rooftops with various angles and surfaces requiring frequent bending, twisting, squatting, climbing, kneeling, and balance
- Ability to work in confined spaces such as attics, basements, and crawl spaces
- Ability to work in outdoor weather conditions including excessive noise, extreme heat, extreme cold, wet environments, and humidity
- Fine motor skills for hand functions including manipulation, grasping, and pinching
- Ability to safely use ladders, fall protection harnesses, and other personal protective equipment
- Ability to maintain balance on roofs, rafters, roof tiles, and roof shingles without causing damage
- Ability to distinguish colors including red, black, yellow, white, and green
- Ability to hear and respond to verbal commands and warnings
- Ability to work with chemicals using appropriate personal protective equipment
- Willingness to travel up to 5% for work assignments
