Job Description
Sunrun, the largest residential solar and battery company in the United States, is hiring a Lead Installer in Bakersfield, CA. In this role, you will lead and coordinate residential solar installation crews while maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality.
About the Role
The Lead Installer is a hands-on member of the solar installation crew who manages daily operations and guides fellow installers through residential PV projects. You will be responsible for both executing installations and providing technical leadership to ensure safe, efficient completion of work. Cross-training opportunities are available through Sunrun's Power+ program, which may include solar battery installation, customer service, or inspection roles.
Responsibilities
- Review and verify crew truck inventory and materials at the loading dock before each job
- Layout, assemble, and install solar modules, racking systems, mechanical and structural mounts, and electrical equipment according to project specifications
- Apply weather sealing to roofing structures and support mechanisms
- Lead crew members through safe and efficient installation procedures
- Provide technical expertise, guidance, and support to fellow installers
- Maintain clean and orderly job sites; perform comprehensive project cleanup
- Ensure personal, crew, and job site safety at all times; identify and report hazards
- Participate in mandatory training on new products, installation methods, and safety protocols
- Assist with solar battery installations when assigned
- Serve as acting foreperson in the foreperson's absence
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Documented previous solar installation experience required; equivalent construction or military experience may be considered
- Valid driver's license and ability to pass a driving background check with a clean driving record
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Ability to transport materials and equipment up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds with assistance
- Ability to work on rooftops at various angles and heights, including frequent bending, twisting, squatting, climbing, kneeling, crawling, and balancing
- Ability to work in confined spaces such as attics, basements, and crawl spaces
- Ability to work in outdoor weather conditions including excessive noise, extreme heat, extreme cold, wet environments, and humidity
- Fine motor skills for detailed hand work including manipulation, grasping, and pinching
- Ability to work safely with ladders, fall protection harnesses, and other personal protective equipment
- Ability to walk on rafters, roof tiles, and roof shingles without causing damage
- Ability to distinguish colors including red, black, yellow, white, and green
- Ability to hear verbal commands and safety warnings
- Ability to work with chemicals using appropriate personal protective equipment
- Willingness to participate in Power+ cross-training and work in other departments as needed
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to build rapport with customers and coworkers
- Proven ability to meet deadlines and key performance metrics
- Solid logical decision-making and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
- 5% travel required
