Job Description
Sunrun, the nation's largest residential solar and storage company, is hiring a Lead Installer in Santa Fe Springs, CA to direct and execute residential solar photovoltaic installations while mentoring crew members on jobsites.
About the Role
As a Lead Installer, you will oversee daily solar installation construction activities, guiding fellow installers through residential PV projects while maintaining high safety and quality standards. You may also assist with battery storage installations and serve as acting Foreperson when needed. Sunrun's vertically integrated model and Power+ cross-training program create opportunities to expand your skills across solar installation, system inspection, and service work, which helps stabilize employment in a seasonal industry.
Responsibilities
- Verify crew truck inventory and materials at the loading dock before departing for job sites
- Layout, assemble, and install solar modules, racking systems, mechanical mounts, and electrical equipment per project specifications
- Apply weather sealing to roofing structures and building support mechanisms
- Lead crew through safe, efficient, and effective installations with technical expertise and on-site coordination
- Provide mentorship, guidance, and support to fellow crew members
- Maintain clean and orderly job sites; perform final cleanup of client properties and installation vehicles
- Ensure adherence to personal, crew, and job site safety protocols at all times
- Participate in mandatory training on new products, installation methods, and safety procedures
- Assist with battery storage installations when assigned
- Act as Foreperson in the Foreperson's absence
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Proven previous solar installation experience
- Equivalent construction or military experience may be considered in place of solar background
- Valid driver's license and ability to maintain a clean driving record and pass a driving background check
- Minimum age 21
- Demonstrated commitment to company safety policies and ability to identify, report, and encourage safe work practices
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build rapport with customers and coworkers
- Ability to meet project deadlines and performance metrics
- Willingness to participate in Power+ cross-training programs and work in other departments as needed
- Ability to work independently and as a collaborative team member in a fast-paced environment
- Logical decision-making and troubleshooting skills with ability to escalate issues appropriately
- Frequent lifting and carrying of materials up to 50 pounds; occasional lifting up to 100 pounds with assistance
- Ability to work on rooftops with various angles and surfaces, including frequent bending, twisting, squatting, climbing, kneeling, crawling, and balance work
- Ability to work in confined spaces such as attics, basements, and crawl spaces
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions: excessive noise, extreme heat and cold, wet environments, and humidity
- Fine motor skills including manipulation, grasping, and pinching for detailed hand work
- Competency with ladders, fall protection harnesses, and other personal protective equipment
- Ability to walk on rafters, roof tiles, and roof shingles without causing damage
- Color distinction ability (red, black, yellow, white, green)
- Ability to hear verbal commands and warnings
- Ability to work safely with chemicals using appropriate protective measures
- Willingness to travel approximately 5% of the time
