Sunrun, the nation's largest dedicated residential solar and battery company, is hiring a Lead Installer in San Jose, CA. In this role, you'll lead installation crews through residential solar projects while mentoring fellow installers and ensuring safe, efficient job site execution.
About the Role
The Lead Installer is a hands-on crew member who takes on supervisory responsibility for daily crew coordination and project completion. You'll combine technical installation skills with team leadership, solving customer problems and maintaining safety standards while guiding colleagues through residential solar and battery installations.
Responsibilities
- Verify truck inventory and crew materials at the loading dock before departing for job sites
- Layout, assemble, and install solar modules, racking systems, mechanical and structural mounts, and electrical equipment per project specifications
- Apply weather sealing to roofing structures and building supports
- Maintain clean and orderly job sites; perform final project cleanup including vehicle and customer site restoration
- Lead crew members through safe, efficient, and effective installations
- Provide technical expertise, guidance, and support to fellow installers
- Ensure personal, crew, and job site safety at all times; identify and report hazards
- Participate in mandatory training on new products, installation methods, and safety protocols
- Assist with residential solar battery installations when assigned
- Serve as acting Foreperson in the Foreperson's absence
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Proven previous solar installation experience
- Equivalent construction or military experience may substitute for solar background
- Valid driver's license and ability to pass a driving background check with clean driving record
- 21 years of age or older
- Ability to transport materials and equipment up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds with assistance
- Ability to work on rooftops at various angles and heights, including climbing, bending, twisting, squatting, kneeling, and crawling
- Ability to work in confined spaces such as attics, basements, and crawl spaces
- Ability to work on roof rafters, tiles, and shingles without causing damage
- Ability to work with ladders, fall protection harnesses, and other personal protective equipment
- Ability to maintain balance and work safely at heights
- Ability to work in outdoor conditions including excessive noise, extreme heat and cold, wet environments, and humidity
- Fine motor skills including manipulation, grasping, and pinching for electrical work
- Ability to distinguish colors including red, black, yellow, white, and green
- Ability to hear verbal commands and safety warnings
- Ability to work with chemicals using appropriate personal protective equipment
- Adherence to company safety policies and ability to encourage others to work safely
- Ability to establish rapport with customers and coworkers, remaining tactful in communication
- Proven ability to meet deadlines and key performance metrics
- Willingness to participate in cross-training through the Power+ program
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
- Strong logical decision-making and problem-solving skills
- Ability to take ownership of issues and escalate appropriately
- Approximately 5% travel required
