Job Description
Sunrun, the largest dedicated residential solar and battery company in the United States, is hiring a Lead Installer for its Beltsville, MD location. This role leads installation crews through solar photovoltaic projects while mentoring fellow installers in safe and efficient practices.
About the Role
As a Lead Installer, you will coordinate residential solar installation crews, manage daily crew operations, and ensure projects meet safety and quality standards. You will guide team members through installations, provide technical expertise, and take on supervisory duties as needed. This position offers the opportunity to develop skills across multiple departments through Sunrun's Power+ cross-training program, which can enhance job security and career advancement.
Responsibilities
- Lead crew members through safe, effective, and efficient residential solar installations
- Provide technical guidance, leadership, and support to fellow installers
- Review and manage inventory at loading dock to ensure crew truck is properly stocked
- Layout, assemble, and install solar modules, racking systems, mechanical and structural mounts, and electrical equipment per project specifications
- Apply weather sealing to roofing structures and support mechanisms
- Maintain clean and orderly job sites and perform project cleanup, including client site and installation vehicle
- Ensure personal, crew, and overall job site safety at all times
- Identify and report safety hazards and encourage safe work practices among crew members
- Participate in mandatory training on new products, installation methodology, and safety procedures
- Assist with solar battery installations when assigned
- Serve as acting foreman in the foreman's absence
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous solar installation experience required; equivalent construction or military experience may be considered
- Valid driver's license and ability to pass a driving background check with a clean driving record
- 21 years of age or older
- Demonstrated ability to identify, report, and encourage adherence to safety policies and procedures
- Ability to transport materials and equipment up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds with assistance
- Ability to work on rooftops of various angles and surfaces, requiring frequent bending, twisting, squatting, climbing, kneeling, crawling, turning, standing, and balance
- Ability to work in confined spaces such as attics, basements, and crawl spaces
- Ability to work in outdoor weather conditions including excessive noise, extreme heat, extreme cold, wet environments, and humidity
- Ability to use hand tools and equipment requiring fine motor skills (manipulation, grasping, pinching)
- Ability to safely use ladders, fall protection harnesses, and other personal protective equipment
- Ability to maintain balance on roofs and elevated surfaces
- Ability to walk on rafters, roof tiles, and roof shingles without causing damage
- Ability to distinguish colors (red, black, yellow, white, green)
- Ability to hear verbal commands and warnings
- Ability to work with chemicals using appropriate protective equipment
- Willingness to participate in the Power+ cross-training program
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Ability to meet deadlines and key performance metrics
- Ability to work independently and as a team player in a fast-paced environment
- 5% travel required
