Job Description
Sunrun, America's largest residential solar and battery company, seeks a Lead Installer in Vista, CA to guide and coordinate solar installation crews while executing residential PV projects safely and efficiently.
About the Role
As a Lead Installer, you will lead a crew through residential solar installations, managing both hands-on installation work and team coordination. You'll apply technical expertise to ensure projects meet specifications, maintain job site safety standards, and support crew development. This role offers opportunities for growth across multiple departments through Sunrun's Power+ cross-training program, which can help stabilize seasonal variations in the industry.
Responsibilities
- Review truck inventory at loading dock and ensure crew equipment is adequately stocked
- Layout and assemble solar modules, racking, mounts, and structural support systems per project specifications
- Apply weather sealing to roofing structures and support mechanisms
- Install solar panels, racking, and electrical equipment on residential properties
- Lead crew members through safe, effective, and efficient installations
- Provide technical guidance, support, and mentorship to fellow installers
- Ensure personal safety, crew safety, and job site safety at all times
- Maintain clean and orderly job sites; perform project cleanup including client site and vehicle
- Identify and report safety hazards; encourage others to work safely
- Participate in mandatory training on new products, installation methods, and safety protocols
- Assist with solar battery installations when assigned
- Serve as acting Foreperson in the Foreperson's absence as needed
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous solar installation experience required; equivalent construction or military experience may be considered
- Valid driver's license and ability to pass driving background check with clean driving record
- 21 years of age or older
- Ability to work on rooftops at various angles; frequent bending, twisting, squatting, climbing, kneeling, crawling, and balance
- Ability to work in confined spaces such as attics, basements, and crawl spaces
- Ability to transport materials and equipment up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds with assistance
- Ability to work outdoors in extreme heat, cold, wet conditions, noise, and humidity
- Ability to maintain balance on roofs, rafters, roof tiles, and heights using fall protection and PPE
- Ability to distinguish colors (red, black, yellow, white, green) and hear verbal commands and warnings
- Fine motor skills for manipulation, grasping, and pinching tasks
- Ability to work with chemicals using appropriate personal protective equipment
- Adherence to company safety policies and procedures; ability to identify and report hazards
- Strong communication skills and ability to build relationships with customers and coworkers
- Proven ability to meet deadlines and key performance metrics
- Solid logical decision-making and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to work independently and as a team player in a fast-paced environment
- Willingness to participate in Power+ cross-training programs and perform work in other departments as needed
- Approximately 5% travel required
