Sunrun, the nation's leading home solar and battery company, is hiring a Lead Installer in Irvine, CA to oversee residential installation crews and coordinate daily solar projects while maintaining the highest safety and quality standards.
About the Role
The Lead Installer is a working member of a solar installation construction crew responsible for completing residential solar installations while providing technical guidance and coordination to fellow installers. This role emphasizes safe, efficient execution and crew development.
Responsibilities
- Review and manage truck inventory at the loading dock to ensure crew has adequate materials and equipment
- Layout, assemble, and install solar modules, racking systems, structural mounts, and electrical equipment per project specifications
- Apply weather sealing to roofing structures and support mechanisms
- Assemble and secure racking, panels, and support structures as detailed in project plans
- Maintain a clean and safe job site throughout installation and during final cleanup
- Enforce personal, crew, and site safety at all times
- Lead crew members through safe, effective, and efficient installations
- Provide technical expertise, mentoring, and support to fellow installers
- Assist with solar battery storage installations when assigned
- Participate in mandatory training on new products, installation methods, and safety protocols
- Serve as acting foreman in the foreman's absence
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous solar installation experience required; equivalent construction or military experience may be considered
- Valid driver's license and ability to pass a driving background check with a clean driving record
- 21 years of age or older
- Ability to transport materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds with assistance
- Ability to work on rooftops of various angles and surfaces requiring frequent bending, twisting, squatting, climbing, kneeling, and balance
- Ability to work in confined spaces such as attics, basements, and crawl spaces
- Ability to work outdoors in extreme heat, cold, wet conditions, and humidity
- Ability to safely use and maintain balance with ladders, fall protection harnesses, and other personal protective equipment
- Ability to walk on rafters, roof tiles, and roof shingles without causing damage
- Fine motor skills for manipulation, grasping, and pinching of small components
- Ability to distinguish colors including red, black, yellow, white, and green
- Ability to hear and respond to verbal commands and safety warnings
- Ability to work safely with chemicals using appropriate personal protective equipment
- Adherence to company safety policies and ability to identify and report hazards
- Strong communication skills and ability to build relationships with customers and coworkers
- Proven ability to meet deadlines and key metrics
- Willingness to participate in cross-training programs and work in other departments as needed
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with sound judgment
- Willingness to take ownership of issues and escalate problems appropriately
- Ability to travel up to 5% of the time
