Job Description

SOLV Energy seeks a Civil Superintendent for a full-time, on-site position in Plymouth, NC overseeing utility-scale solar and energy storage construction projects. This role manages civil work from Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPP) through project completion and requires travel as needed.

About the Role

As Civil Superintendent, you will direct all civil construction activities on a utility-scale solar or battery storage project, ensuring compliance with engineering specifications, safety standards, and environmental requirements. You will coordinate heavy equipment operations, manage field crews, oversee subcontractor work, and collaborate with project teams to deliver on schedule and budget.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, oversee, and maintain all major heavy earthwork equipment; prioritize repairs and support operator training and certification
  • Perform accurate takeoffs and yardage calculations; apply knowledge of earthmoving principles and production efficiency
  • Read, interpret, and review civil construction drawings; provide constructability input and schedule support to project teams
  • Coordinate underground cable installation and related civil work with in-house crews and subcontractors
  • Apply surveying, GPS technology, and engineering knowledge to support construction execution
  • Implement and maintain SWPPP compliance; conduct erosion control and environmental inspections; coordinate with regulatory agencies
  • Plan, install, and oversee temporary water management systems, including tanks, sumps, pumps, and dewatering operations
  • Manage incoming civil materials and oversee third-party testing and material sampling
  • Recruit, mentor, and manage field crews to build effective teams
  • Use Microsoft Office and CAD software for planning, reporting, and documentation
  • Identify and resolve construction challenges in dynamic jobsite environments

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as Assistant Civil Superintendent
  • Preferred: 6 years of field construction experience at a supervisory level
  • Preferred: 3 years of utility-scale solar project experience
  • Thorough knowledge of construction methods, practices, regulations, and OSHA safety standards
  • Strong job scheduling, planning, expediting, and cost control skills
  • Working knowledge of multiple trades; ability to read and interpret specifications
  • Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects
  • Experience conducting constructability reviews and coordinating with estimating teams
  • Strong problem-solving skills and sense of urgency
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to perform accurate yardage and tonnage takeoffs
  • Strong understanding of civil construction equipment selection and utilization
  • Valid driver's license
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. without employer sponsorship

Compensation: $107,757 – $140,084 annually (salary)
