Lead Installer

Sunrun seeks a Lead Installer for residential solar installation projects in Honolulu, HI. This role involves hands-on installation work while providing technical guidance and coordination to fellow crew members.

About the Role

The Lead Installer is a core member of the installation construction crew, responsible for completing residential solar PV projects safely and efficiently. In addition to direct installation work, you will guide and coordinate other installers on daily tasks, mentor crew members in best practices, and occasionally serve as acting Foreperson when needed. Sunrun's Power+ program offers cross-training opportunities across departments—from sales qualification through installation, inspection, and system servicing—to build career versatility and improve job stability in a seasonally affected industry.

Responsibilities

• Review and organize truck inventory and materials before each job
• Layout, assemble, and install solar modules, racking systems, mechanical and structural mounts, and electrical equipment according to project specifications
• Apply weather sealing to roofing structures and support mechanisms
• Lead crew through safe, effective, and efficient installation procedures
• Provide technical expertise, guidance, and support to fellow installers
• Ensure personal, crew, and job site safety at all times; identify and report hazards; encourage safe work practices
• Maintain clean and orderly job sites; perform site cleanup including vehicle preparation
• Participate in mandatory training on new products, installation methods, and safety protocols
• Assist with solar battery storage installations when assigned
• Serve as acting Foreperson in the Foreperson's absence

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Documented previous solar installation experience
• Equivalent construction or military experience may qualify
• Valid driver's license and ability to pass a driving background check; clean driving record required
• 21 years of age or older
• Adherence to company safety policies and ability to identify, report, and encourage safe work practices
• Ability to establish rapport and communicate tactfully with customers and coworkers
• Proven ability to meet deadlines and performance metrics
• Willingness to participate in Power+ cross-training programs across departments
• Independent and collaborative work ethic with strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
• Ability to take ownership of issues and escalate appropriately
• Ability to transport materials and equipment up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds with assistance
• Ability to work on rooftops requiring frequent bending, twisting, squatting, climbing, kneeling, crawling, and balance maintenance
• Ability to work in confined spaces such as attics, basements, and crawl spaces
• Ability to work in outdoor conditions including excessive noise, extreme heat, extreme cold, wet environments, and humidity
• Fine motor skills for manipulation, grasping, and pinching
• Ability to safely use ladders, fall protection harnesses, and other personal protective equipment
• Ability to maintain balance on roofs and heights
• Ability to walk on rafters, roof tiles, and shingles without causing damage
• Ability to distinguish colors including red, black, yellow, white, and green
• Ability to hear verbal commands and warnings
• Ability to work safely with chemicals using appropriate protective equipment
• Willingness to travel up to 5% of the time
