Job Description

Sunrun, America's largest dedicated residential solar and storage company, is hiring a Certified Electrician 1 in Billerica, MA. You will lead solar electrical installations, perform system upgrades, and troubleshoot equipment while maintaining safety and code compliance across residential projects.

About the Role

As a Certified Electrician, you will install and maintain solar photovoltaic systems, battery storage equipment, and associated electrical infrastructure on residential properties. You'll work directly with homeowners, branch teams, and local inspectors to ensure all systems meet code requirements and customer needs. The role offers exposure to multiple aspects of the solar installation lifecycle, from initial system setup through ongoing service and repairs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead electrical installation of solar arrays, DC/AC wiring, and grid interconnection systems on residential properties
  • Oversee quality and code compliance of work performed by other electricians, ensuring adherence to NEC and local electrical codes
  • Install and commission residential solar battery storage systems
  • Diagnose and resolve electrical system faults and performance issues
  • Plan and execute main panel upgrades (MPU) and residential service replacements
  • Coordinate system upgrades and repairs with branch teams and homeowners to support solar equipment operation
  • Work with local building inspectors and permitting authorities to satisfy jurisdictional requirements
  • Travel approximately 5% of the time to job sites
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Current Journeyman Electrician License or equivalent state/local certification (e.g., wireman license)
  • Documented experience installing and repairing electrical systems
  • Hands-on experience with DC wiring up to 600 volts and AC wiring up to 480 volts
  • Working knowledge of residential electrical service and distribution panel replacement preferred
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record (subject to background check)
  • Age 21 or older
  • Ability to transport materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds with assistance
  • Ability to work on rooftops at various angles and heights, including climbing, bending, squatting, kneeling, and balancing
  • Ability to work in confined spaces (attics, basements, crawl spaces)
  • Ability to work in outdoor conditions including heat, cold, humidity, noise, and wet environments
  • Proficiency with hand tools requiring fine motor skills (manipulation, grasping, pinching)
  • Competency with ladders, fall protection harnesses, and personal protective equipment
  • Ability to work safely while wearing heavy protective gear (arc flash suits, gloves, face shields)
  • Ability to walk on rafters, roof tiles, and roof shingles without causing damage
  • Ability to distinguish colors (red, black, yellow, white, green)
  • Ability to hear verbal commands and safety warnings
  • Ability to work with chemicals using appropriate personal protective equipment
  • Strong focus on safety and customer service
