Job Description
Sunrun seeks a Lead Installer for its residential solar installation team based in Billerica, MA. In this role, you will install solar photovoltaic systems on residential properties while providing technical guidance and coordination to fellow crew members.
About the Role
As Lead Installer, you are a core member of a solar installation construction crew responsible for completing residential PV projects safely and efficiently. You will guide and coordinate fellow installers daily, serve as a technical resource, and occasionally act as foreperson in the foreperson's absence. Sunrun's Power+ program offers cross-training opportunities across installation, inspection, qualifying, and service functions to build career security and versatility.
Responsibilities
- Verify crew truck inventory and material stocking at loading dock before job sites
- Layout and assemble solar modules, racking systems, structural mounts, and electrical equipment per project specifications
- Apply weather sealing to roofing structures and support mechanisms
- Assemble racking, solar panels, and support structures according to project plans
- Maintain clean and orderly job sites during and after installation
- Perform site cleanup including client property and installation vehicles
- Ensure personal, crew, and job site safety at all times
- Participate in mandatory training on new products, installation methodology, and safety protocols
- Lead crews through safe, effective, and efficient installations
- Provide technical expertise, leadership, and support to crew members
- Assist with solar battery storage installations when assigned
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous residential solar installation experience required; equivalent construction or military experience may qualify
- Valid driver's license and ability to pass a driving background check with a clean driving record
- 21 years of age or older
- Ability to identify, report, and encourage safe work practices; adherence to company safety policies
- Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with customers and coworkers
- Proven track record of meeting deadlines and performance metrics
- Willingness to participate in Power+ cross-training and work in other departments as needed
- Ability to work independently and as a team in fast-paced environments
- Strong problem-solving, logical decision-making, and troubleshooting skills
- Ownership of issues and proactive escalation to appropriate personnel
- Ability to transport materials and equipment up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds with assistance
- Ability to work on rooftops at various angles and heights, requiring frequent climbing, kneeling, bending, twisting, squatting, and balance
- Ability to work in confined spaces such as attics, basements, and crawl spaces
- Ability to work in outdoor weather conditions including extreme heat, cold, wet environments, and humidity
- Fine motor skills for precise hand functions including manipulation, grasping, and pinching
- Proficiency with ladders, fall protection harnesses, and other personal protective equipment
- Ability to distinguish colors including red, black, yellow, white, and green
- Ability to hear and respond to verbal commands and safety warnings
- Ability to work safely with chemicals using appropriate protections
- Willingness to travel up to 5% of the time
