Experienced Critical Power Field Technician (UPS Field Engineer)

Pearce Services, a leading provider of asset management and technical services for mission-critical power infrastructure, is hiring a Critical Power Field Technician (UPS Field Engineer) to serve customers throughout Richmond, VA and surrounding areas. You will deliver preventive maintenance, emergency repairs, commissioning, and battery services on UPS systems, DC power equipment, battery plants, PDUs, and static transfer switches across data centers, telecom facilities, healthcare sites, and industrial locations.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, testing, troubleshooting, and repairs on UPS systems, battery plants, DC power systems, PDUs, static transfer switches, inverters, and related critical power equipment
• Diagnose electrical and control system faults using schematics, test equipment, manufacturer documentation, and industry best practices
• Install, commission, and replace UPS systems, battery strings, battery monitoring systems, maintenance bypass equipment, and associated power infrastructure
• Respond to emergency service calls and restore customer systems to operational status while maintaining safety and quality standards
• Perform battery testing, capacity testing, failure analysis, and lifecycle replacement services
• Complete service reports, maintenance documentation, and customer communications accurately
• Mentor junior technicians and support field training by sharing troubleshooting techniques and safety practices
• Maintain compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, company safety procedures, and customer site requirements

Requirements

• Minimum 3+ years of hands-on experience servicing UPS systems, battery systems, DC power equipment, generators, switchgear, data center infrastructure, or mission-critical electrical infrastructure
• Experience with equipment from manufacturers including Eaton, Vertiv/Liebert, Schneider Electric/APC, Mitsubishi, Toshiba, ABB, or comparable critical power platforms strongly preferred
• Strong understanding of AC and DC electrical theory, power distribution systems, and battery technologies
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation
• Proficiency using multimeters, power quality analyzers, battery testing equipment, and other diagnostic tools
• Demonstrated ability to independently troubleshoot and resolve complex electrical and electronic system failures
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record and ability to meet company vehicle requirements
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and move equipment and materials weighing up to 100 pounds with or without assistance
• Ability to frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, reach overhead, and work in confined or restricted-access areas
• Ability to work safely around energized electrical equipment and in mission-critical customer environments
• Willingness to travel throughout the assigned service territory, including overnight and multi-day travel as business needs require
• Willingness to participate in on-call rotation and respond to customer emergencies
• Ability to obtain and maintain security clearance access to customer facilities including data centers, telecommunications sites, healthcare facilities, industrial locations, and government installations
• Ability to pass pre-employment screenings including drug screening and background check
