Job Description

Pearce Services, a CBRE Group subsidiary providing mission-critical infrastructure maintenance and repair across North America, is hiring an Experienced Critical Power Field Technician (UPS Field Engineer) for the Garden City, NY region. You will deliver preventive maintenance, emergency service, commissioning, and battery services on UPS systems, DC power equipment, battery plants, PDUs, and static transfer switches serving data centers, telecommunications facilities, healthcare institutions, and industrial sites. The role demands strong electrical troubleshooting, independent judgment, and customer-facing professionalism in fast-paced field environments.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, testing, troubleshooting, and repairs on UPS systems, battery plants, DC power systems, PDUs, STS units, inverters, and related critical power infrastructure.
  • Diagnose electrical and control system faults using schematics, test equipment, manufacturer documentation, and industry best practices.
  • Install, commission, and replace UPS systems, battery strings, battery monitoring systems, maintenance bypass equipment, and associated power infrastructure.
  • Respond to emergency service calls and restore customer systems to operational status while maintaining safety and quality standards.
  • Perform battery testing, capacity testing, failure analysis, and lifecycle replacement services.
  • Complete service reports, maintenance documentation, and customer communications accurately and professionally.
  • Mentor junior technicians and share troubleshooting techniques, safety practices, and technical knowledge.
  • Maintain compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, company safety procedures, and customer site requirements.
  • Support additional field service activities as business and customer needs evolve.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3+ years of hands-on experience servicing UPS systems, battery systems, DC power equipment, generators, switchgear, data center infrastructure, or mission-critical electrical infrastructure.
  • Experience with equipment from manufacturers such as Eaton, Vertiv/Liebert, Schneider Electric/APC, Mitsubishi, Toshiba, ABB, or comparable critical power platforms strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of AC and DC electrical theory, power distribution systems, and battery technologies.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Proficiency using multimeters, power quality analyzers, battery testing equipment, and other diagnostic tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently troubleshoot and resolve complex electrical and electronic system failures.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record and ability to meet company vehicle requirements.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and move equipment and materials weighing up to 100 pounds with or without assistance.
  • Ability to frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, reach overhead, and work in confined or restricted-access areas.
  • Ability to work safely around energized electrical equipment and within mission-critical customer environments.
  • Willingness to travel throughout the assigned service territory, including overnight and multi-day travel; per diem provided.
  • Willingness to participate in on-call rotation and respond to customer emergencies when required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain security clearance access to customer facilities including data centers, telecommunications sites, healthcare facilities, industrial locations, and government installations.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment screening, drug screening, and background check where applicable.
  • Military veterans with backgrounds in electronics, avionics, communications, radar, power generation, electrical maintenance, nuclear power, or related technical specialties are strongly encouraged to apply.
