Experienced Critical Power Field Technician (UPS Field Engineer)

Pearce Services seeks an experienced Critical Power Field Technician (UPS Field Service Engineer) to provide preventive maintenance, emergency service, commissioning, and battery services on UPS systems, DC power equipment, battery plants, PDUs, and static transfer switches across mission-critical environments in Ladysmith, VA and surrounding regions. This role demands independent troubleshooting of complex electrical systems, sound technical judgment, and responsive customer support in data centers, telecommunications facilities, healthcare sites, and industrial locations.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, testing, troubleshooting, and repairs on UPS systems, battery plants, DC power systems, PDUs, STS units, inverters, and related critical power equipment
• Diagnose electrical and control system faults using schematics, test equipment, manufacturer documentation, and industry best practices
• Install, commission, and replace UPS systems, battery strings, battery monitoring systems, maintenance bypass equipment, and associated power infrastructure
• Respond to emergency service calls and restore customer systems to operational status while maintaining safety and quality standards
• Perform battery testing, capacity testing, failure analysis, and lifecycle replacement services
• Complete service reports, maintenance documentation, and customer communications
• Mentor junior technicians and support field training by sharing troubleshooting techniques, safety practices, and technical knowledge
• Maintain compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, company safety procedures, and customer site requirements

Requirements

• Minimum 3+ years of hands-on experience servicing UPS systems, battery systems, DC power equipment, generators, switchgear, data center infrastructure, or mission-critical electrical infrastructure
• Experience with equipment from manufacturers such as Eaton, Vertiv/Liebert, Schneider Electric/APC, Mitsubishi, Toshiba, ABB, or comparable critical power platforms strongly preferred
• Strong understanding of AC and DC electrical theory, power distribution systems, and battery technologies
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation
• Proficiency with multimeters, power quality analyzers, battery testing equipment, and diagnostic tools
• Demonstrated ability to independently troubleshoot and resolve complex electrical and electronic system failures
• Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record and willingness to travel within assigned service territory, including occasional overnight travel
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and move equipment and materials weighing up to 100 pounds
• Ability to frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, reach overhead, and work in confined or restricted-access areas
• Ability to work safely around energized electrical equipment and within mission-critical customer environments
• Ability to obtain and maintain security clearance access to customer facilities including data centers, telecommunications sites, healthcare facilities, industrial locations, and government installations
• Willingness to participate in on-call rotation and respond to customer emergencies as required
• Must pass pre-employment screening including drug screening and background check
