Experienced Critical Power Field Technician (UPS Field Engineer)

Pearce Services, a CBRE subsidiary and North American leader in mission-critical infrastructure maintenance, seeks an Experienced Critical Power Field Technician to provide preventive maintenance, emergency service, commissioning, and battery services on UPS systems, DC power equipment, battery plants, and related critical infrastructure across the Newark, NJ region and surrounding areas. The role involves independent troubleshooting and repair of complex power systems in data centers, telecommunications facilities, healthcare installations, and industrial environments.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, testing, troubleshooting, and repairs on UPS systems, battery plants, DC power systems, PDUs, static transfer switches, inverters, and associated critical power equipment.
• Diagnose electrical and control system faults using schematics, test equipment, manufacturer documentation, and technical best practices.
• Install, commission, and replace UPS systems, battery strings, battery monitoring systems, maintenance bypass equipment, and power infrastructure.
• Respond to emergency service calls and restore customer systems to operational status while adhering to safety and quality standards.
• Execute battery testing, capacity testing, failure analysis, and lifecycle replacement services.
• Complete service reports, maintenance documentation, and customer communications accurately and professionally.
• Mentor junior technicians and support field training by sharing troubleshooting techniques, safety practices, and technical knowledge.
• Maintain compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, company safety procedures, and customer site requirements.
• Support additional field service activities as business and customer needs require.

Requirements

• Minimum 3+ years of hands-on experience servicing UPS systems, battery systems, DC power equipment, generators, switchgear, data center infrastructure, or mission-critical electrical infrastructure.
• Experience with equipment from Eaton, Vertiv/Liebert, Schneider Electric/APC, Mitsubishi, Toshiba, ABB, or comparable critical power platforms strongly preferred.
• Working knowledge of AC and DC electrical theory, power distribution systems, and battery technologies.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
• Proficiency with multimeters, power quality analyzers, battery testing equipment, and diagnostic tools.
• Demonstrated capability to independently troubleshoot and resolve complex electrical and electronic system failures.
• Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record and ability to meet company vehicle requirements.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and move equipment and materials weighing up to 100 pounds with or without assistance.
• Ability to frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and reach overhead; work in confined or restricted-access areas.
• Ability to work safely around energized electrical equipment and within mission-critical customer environments.
• Ability to obtain and maintain security clearance access to customer facilities including data centers, telecommunications sites, healthcare facilities, industrial locations, and government installations.
• Willingness to travel throughout assigned service territory, including overnight and multi-day travel as required; per diem provided for qualifying travel.
• Willingness to participate in on-call rotation and respond to customer emergencies.
• Pass pre-employment screening including drug screening and background check.
• Military background in electronics, avionics, communications, radar, power generation, electrical maintenance, nuclear power, or related technical specialties highly encouraged.
