Job Description
Pearce Services, a CBRE company, is hiring an Experienced Critical Power Field Technician (UPS Field Service Engineer) based in Manassas, VA, to deliver preventive maintenance, emergency repair, commissioning, and battery services on UPS systems, DC power infrastructure, battery plants, PDUs, and static transfer switches across mission-critical environments including data centers, telecommunications facilities, healthcare sites, and industrial installations. This role demands strong electrical troubleshooting capability, independent judgment, and a commitment to safety in complex power system environments.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, testing, troubleshooting, and repairs on UPS systems, battery plants, DC power systems, PDUs, STS units, inverters, and related critical power equipment
- Diagnose electrical and control system faults using schematics, test equipment, and manufacturer documentation
- Install, commission, and replace UPS systems, battery strings, battery monitoring systems, maintenance bypass equipment, and associated power infrastructure
- Respond to emergency service calls and restore customer systems to operational status
- Perform battery testing, capacity testing, failure analysis, and lifecycle replacement services
- Complete service reports, maintenance documentation, and customer communications
- Build and maintain customer relationships through technical expertise and responsiveness
- Mentor junior technicians and support field training through knowledge sharing on troubleshooting, safety, and technical practices
- Maintain compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, company safety procedures, and customer site requirements
Requirements
- Minimum 3+ years of hands-on field experience servicing UPS systems, battery systems, DC power equipment, generators, switchgear, data center infrastructure, or other mission-critical electrical infrastructure
- Experience with equipment from manufacturers such as Eaton, Vertiv/Liebert, Schneider Electric/APC, Mitsubishi, Toshiba, ABB, or comparable critical power platforms strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of AC and DC electrical theory, power distribution systems, and battery technologies
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation
- Proficiency with multimeters, power quality analyzers, battery testing equipment, and other diagnostic tools
- Demonstrated ability to independently troubleshoot and resolve complex electrical and electronic system failures
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record and ability to meet company vehicle requirements
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and move equipment weighing up to 100 pounds with or without assistance
- Ability to frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, reach overhead, and work in confined or restricted-access areas
- Ability to work safely around energized electrical equipment and within mission-critical customer environments
- Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods while maintaining attention to detail and safety awareness
- Willingness and ability to travel throughout the assigned service territory, including overnight and multi-day travel as business needs require
- Willingness to participate in on-call rotation and respond to customer emergencies
- Ability to obtain and maintain security clearance access to customer facilities including data centers, telecommunications sites, healthcare facilities, industrial locations, and government installations
- Ability to pass pre-employment screenings including drug screening and background check
