Job Description
Pearce Services seeks a Lead Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Technician to direct field operations on utility-scale energy storage and mission-critical electrical infrastructure projects across the United States. In this role, you will manage crews of 5–40+ technicians, oversee subcontractors, plan daily work execution, and lead commissioning and troubleshooting on complex BESS installations. This position requires up to 100% travel, with assignments typically lasting four to six weeks at a time.
Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise crews ranging from 5 to 40+ technicians on field projects.
- Oversee subcontractors and coordinate multiple trades on site.
- Plan daily work activities, project schedules, and execution strategies.
- Manage customer expectations and maintain field communications throughout projects.
- Train and mentor junior technicians on technical procedures and safety protocols.
- Enforce and maintain a strong safety culture across all operations.
- Manage concurrent projects simultaneously.
- Perform electrical troubleshooting using multimeters, clamp meters, insulation resistance testers (Megger), power quality analyzers, and thermal imaging equipment.
Requirements
- 5+ years of team leadership or supervisory experience.
- 6+ years of hands-on electrical work with medium to high voltage electrical systems and components.
- 6+ years of direct experience with utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), mission-critical electrical infrastructure, hyperscale or enterprise data centers, and UPS systems.
- Demonstrated experience in electrical and mechanical construction and commissioning.
- Experience troubleshooting refrigeration systems, including CRAH and CRAC equipment and commercial/industrial HVAC systems.
- Valid driver's license held for at least one year.
- Ability to work rotating shifts and extended travel assignments (four to six weeks at a time).
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods and work in ergonomically challenging positions.
- One or more of the following certifications: OSHA 30 (minimum OSHA 10), NFPA 70E, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), EPA Section 608 Universal Certification, NETA Certification, NICET Certification, Project Management Professional (PMP), Electrical Journeyman License, Electrical Contractor License (where applicable), or State Electrical License.
- Military background preferred, with experience in electrical power generation, industrial maintenance, nuclear operations, avionics, telecommunications, power distribution, shipboard electrical systems, HVAC, or other mission-critical technical disciplines.
