Lead BESS Technician

Pearce Services seeks a Lead BESS Technician in Los Angeles, California to direct field teams and oversee complex electrical and mechanical projects in battery energy storage systems. This is a 100% travel position requiring 4–6 weeks away at a time; candidates will manage crews of 5–40+ technicians, coordinate subcontractors, and ensure safe, efficient execution on utility-scale BESS and mission-critical infrastructure projects across the United States.

Responsibilities

• Lead and direct crews of 5–40+ technicians on BESS, UPS, and critical electrical infrastructure projects
• Supervise subcontractors and coordinate multiple trades on site
• Plan daily work activities and manage overall project execution
• Manage customer communications and set/maintain expectations
• Train and mentor junior technicians in the field
• Maintain and enforce a strong safety culture in compliance with OSHA standards
• Manage multiple concurrent projects
• Perform electrical troubleshooting using multimeters, clamp meters, insulation resistance testers (Megger), power quality analyzers, and thermal imaging equipment

Requirements

• 5+ years of team leadership or direct supervisory experience
• 6+ years of hands-on experience with medium- to high-voltage electrical systems and components
• 6+ years of experience in utility-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS), mission-critical electrical infrastructure, hyperscale/enterprise data centers, or UPS systems
• Demonstrated experience in electrical and mechanical construction and commissioning
• Refrigeration system troubleshooting experience with CRAH/CRAC equipment and commercial/industrial HVAC systems
• Valid driver's license held for a minimum of one year
• Ability to work rotating shifts and travel 4–6 weeks at a time; 100% travel required
• Ability to stand for prolonged periods and work in ergonomically challenging positions
• One or more of the following certifications:
  • OSHA 30 (OSHA 10 minimum)
  • NFPA 70E
  • Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
  • EPA Section 608 Universal Certification
  • NETA Certification
  • NICET Certification
  • Project Management Professional (PMP)
  • Electrical Journeyman License
  • Electrical Contractor License (where applicable)
  • State Electrical License
• Military background in electrical power generation, industrial maintenance, nuclear operations, avionics, telecommunications, power distribution, shipboard electrical systems, HVAC, or other mission-critical technical disciplines is preferred
