Clearway Energy seeks a Senior Associate for BESS Modeling and Structuring in San Francisco to develop quantitative models that drive battery energy storage valuation, structured products pricing, gas generation optimization, and power market analysis. You will build and enhance Clearway's internal quantitative modeling platform (CWENQuant), create advanced BESS dispatch optimization models, and directly influence major commercial decisions across trading, origination, development, and asset management. This hybrid role operates from the San Francisco office on Tuesdays and Thursdays for collaboration.
Responsibilities
Develop and deploy production-grade optimization models and quantitative analyses for BESS dispatch optimization, renewable generation, gas generation, and data center infrastructure projects across the US
Build stochastic, machine learning, or deep learning models to forecast day-ahead, ancillary, and real-time power prices using fundamental variables such as load, gas prices, and wind and solar generation to inform trading strategies
Develop and maintain gas dispatch, HRCO, toll, and structured pricing models; perform mark-to-market analysis; support due diligence, underwriting, and credit analytics
Benchmark models against actual operations and market outcomes to refine forecast accuracy and optimization performance
Construct data pipelines with internal and external sources; create automated workflows for analysis; build market data dashboards using data science and optimization techniques
Analyze trading forwards against actual and historical power prices and fundamental forecasts to shape trading strategy views, risk practices, and origination deal pricing
Deliver analytical insights from modeling results to support risk management, budget planning, trading activities, and market advocacy
Monitor evolving macro and micro-level market conditions and assess their impact on energy markets
