Assistant Commissioning Project Manager, PV

SOLV Energy seeks an Assistant Commissioning Project Manager to support the planning, execution, and oversight of testing and commissioning activities on utility-scale solar, battery energy storage, and high-voltage substation projects nationwide. Based remotely in California with required onsite presence at job sites, you will work alongside the Commissioning Manager and technical experts to ensure all systems are installed, tested, and commissioned to project specifications, safety standards, and industry best practices. This hybrid role involves managing commissioning teams, coordinating across engineering, construction, and quality assurance, and delivering reliable, fully operable renewable energy assets.

Responsibilities

• Manage and support the project commissioning team with guidance, training, and task execution oversight
• Report daily to the Commissioning Manager on the status of assigned projects
• Review technical, contractual, and regulatory commissioning requirements and assist in developing project milestone lists, commissioning plans, and procedures
• Communicate with OEM suppliers regarding equipment-specific testing and commissioning activities
• Coordinate with project teams (engineering, construction, quality assurance) to align commissioning activities
• Assist with development and weekly updates to integrated P6 testing and commissioning schedules
• Assist with commissioning resource planning
• Review initial energization procedures and support switching activities during hot commissioning
• Perform MVAC collection circuit and Aux Power circuit switching during facility hot commissioning as required
• Develop switching plans and lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures
• Identify, analyze, and recommend corrective actions for technical issues identified during commissioning or initial operation
• Manage all pre-commissioning, cold, warm, and hot commissioning tests for BESS, HV, and PV plant systems, including synchronization, functional testing, utility capability testing, and project acceptance testing
• Ensure all commissioning activities comply with industry standards, safety protocols, and environmental regulations
• Prepare detailed daily commissioning reports documenting test results, issues encountered, and corrective actions
• Monitor project timelines and resources to ensure successful delivery
• Prepare and maintain Lessons Learned and equipment warranty tracking logs
• Establish and manage Safety Tagging, Lockout, Red Rope, and Work Permit Programs from the start of cold commissioning through project Substantial Completion

Requirements

• Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in testing and commissioning on utility-scale electrical systems
• Strong knowledge of electrical power systems, inverters, transformers, and electrical infrastructure
• Demonstrated experience managing project teams and coordinating with multiple stakeholders
• Knowledge of utility-scale solar, battery storage, and high-voltage substation systems
• Knowledge and hands-on experience with HV and MV switching operations and equipment grounding
• Knowledge and experience with site lockout/tagout (LOTO) safety program procedures
• Knowledge and experience with substation protection and control (P&C) systems
• Knowledge of fiber installation and test requirements
• SCADA system understanding, testing, and commissioning requirements
• DC systems architecture and testing requirements
• Knowledge of NFPA/NEC standards and IEEE/IES/API Standards
• NETA and IEEE standards related to utility-scale solar generation, including transformers, MV and LV cabling, grounding, and solar-specific component testing
• Understanding of commercial power plant performance
• Working knowledge of NERC compliance standards and ISO/TSO testing and operational requirements (highly beneficial)
• Familiarity with DCS/SCADA control systems for utility-scale generation (preferred)
• Knowledge of microprocessor protective relay testing (preferred)
• Ability to stoop, bend, crouch, reach, handle, and maintain finger dexterity frequently
• Ability to sit, stand, walk, and lift 50 or more pounds regularly
• Constant finger dexterity and ability to see details at close range and distance, hear, talk, and possess depth perception
• Occasional climbing and carrying capability
• Ability to work on or near lifts, machinery, and medium to high voltage equipment
• Ability to work in high, exposed, or difficult-to-access places
• Ability to work in outdoor environments with variable weather and site conditions, high noise levels
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without requiring employer sponsorship now or in the future

Salary: $92,091–$115,114 annually

Work Schedule & Travel: Hybrid role based remotely in California with frequent onsite presence at job sites. Extended out-of-town travel is expected as project needs dictate.
