Assistant Commissioning Project Manager, HV

SOLV Energy seeks an Assistant Commissioning Project Manager for High Voltage infrastructure projects. Based remotely in California with on-site work required, you will support the planning, execution, and oversight of testing and commissioning activities across utility-scale solar, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and high-voltage substation projects. You will work alongside the Commissioning Manager and technical experts to ensure all systems are installed, tested, and commissioned to project specifications, safety standards, and industry best practices, while managing commissioning teams and coordinating across engineering, construction, and quality assurance functions.

Responsibilities

• Manage the project commissioning team, providing guidance and support for efficient task execution
• Report daily commissioning status to the Commissioning Manager
• Review technical, contractual, and regulatory requirements; develop project-specific commissioning plans, procedures, and milestone/deliverable lists
• Communicate with OEM suppliers regarding equipment-specific testing and commissioning activities
• Coordinate with engineering, construction, and quality assurance teams to align commissioning activities
• Develop and maintain integrated P6 testing and commissioning schedules; update weekly
• Assist with development of commissioning resource plans
• Review initial energization procedures; assist with switching activities during facility hot commissioning
• Perform switching activities on MVAC collection circuits and auxiliary power circuits as required
• Develop switching plans and lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures
• Identify, analyze, and recommend corrective actions for technical issues during commissioning and initial operation
• Manage pre-commissioning, cold, warm, and hot commissioning tests including synchronization, functional testing, utility capability testing, and project acceptance testing for BESS, HV, and PV systems
• Ensure commissioning compliance with industry standards, safety protocols, and environmental regulations
• Prepare detailed daily commissioning reports documenting test results, issues, and corrective actions
• Monitor project timelines and resources for successful delivery
• Maintain lessons learned and equipment warranty tracking logs
• Establish and manage safety tagging, lockout, red rope, and work permit programs from cold commissioning through substantial completion

Requirements

• Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in testing and commissioning of utility-scale electrical systems
• Demonstrated experience with high-voltage and medium-voltage switching operations and equipment grounding
• Proficiency with site lockout/tagout (LOTO) safety program procedures
• Knowledge of substation protection and control (P&C) systems
• Understanding of SCADA system testing and commissioning requirements
• Knowledge of DC systems architecture and testing requirements
• Familiarity with fiber installation and test requirements
• Working knowledge of NFPA/NEC standards and IEEE/IES/API standards
• Knowledge of NETA and IEEE standards related to utility-scale solar, including transformers, MV/LV cabling, grounding, and solar-specific component testing
• Understanding of power plant commercial performance and NERC compliance standards
• Proven experience managing project teams and coordinating with multiple stakeholders
• Strong knowledge of electrical power systems, inverters, transformers, and electrical infrastructure
• Problem-solving skills with proactive approach to technical issue resolution
• Organizational skills to manage multiple concurrent projects
• Ability to frequently stoop, bend, crouch, reach, handle materials, and maintain finger dexterity
• Ability to sit, stand, walk, and lift 50 or more pounds regularly
• Constant ability to see details at close and distance range, hear, talk, and maintain depth perception
• Occasional climbing and carrying; comfort working in high, exposed, or difficult-to-access locations
• Ability to work in high-noise environments and in proximity to moving mechanical parts and medium/high-voltage equipment
• Willingness to work on-site throughout testing and commissioning phases with extended out-of-town travel as project needs require
