Job Description
SOLV Energy seeks an Assistant Commissioning Project Manager for utility-scale solar, battery storage, and high-voltage substation projects nationwide. This role supports the planning, execution, and oversight of testing and commissioning activities across PV systems, BESS, and HV infrastructure. You will work with the Commissioning Manager and technical experts to coordinate cross-functional teams and ensure systems meet project requirements, safety standards, and industry best practices. This position is hybrid, with required onsite presence at job sites and partial remote work; specific arrangements will be discussed during the interview.
Responsibilities
- Manage and mentor the project commissioning team, providing guidance and support for task execution
- Report daily project status to the Commissioning Manager
- Review technical, contractual, and regulatory requirements; develop project milestones, deliverables lists, and commissioning plans and procedures
- Communicate with OEM suppliers regarding equipment-specific testing and commissioning activities
- Coordinate with engineering, construction, and quality assurance teams on commissioning alignment
- Assist with development of integrated P6 testing and commissioning schedules; update schedules weekly
- Assist with development of the commissioning resource plan
- Review initial energization procedures and assist with switching activities during facility hot commissioning
- Perform MVAC collection circuit and auxiliary power circuit switching during hot commissioning
- Develop switching plans and lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures as required
- Identify, analyze, and recommend corrective actions for technical issues during commissioning and initial operation
- Manage pre-commissioning, cold, warm, and hot commissioning tests, including synchronization, functional testing, utility capability testing, and project acceptance testing for BESS, HV, and PV systems
- Ensure all commissioning activities comply with industry standards, safety protocols, and environmental regulations
- Prepare detailed daily commissioning reports documenting test results, issues, and corrective actions
- Monitor project timelines and resources for successful delivery
- Maintain lessons learned and equipment warranty tracking logs
- Establish and manage Safety Tagging, Lockout, Red Rope, and Work Permit Programs from cold commissioning through project substantial completion
Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in testing and commissioning of utility-scale electrical systems
- Strong technical knowledge of electrical power systems, inverters, transformers, and electrical infrastructure
- Proven experience managing project teams and coordinating with multiple cross-functional stakeholders
- Knowledge of utility-scale solar, battery storage, and high-voltage substation commissioning
- Knowledge and hands-on experience with HV and MV switching operations and equipment grounding
- Knowledge and experience with site lockout/tagout (LOTO) safety program procedures and management
- Knowledge and experience with substation protection and control (P&C) systems
- Knowledge of fiber installation and test requirements
- SCADA system understanding, testing, and commissioning experience
- DC systems architecture and testing requirements knowledge
- Familiarity with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and National Electrical Code (NEC) standards
- Familiarity with IEEE, IES, and API standards related to utility-scale solar generation, transformers, MV and LV cabling, grounding, and solar-specific component testing (NETA standards)
- Working knowledge of NERC compliance standards and ISO and TSO testing and operational requirements (highly beneficial)
- Familiarity with DCS/SCADA control systems for utility-scale generation (preferred)
- Knowledge of microprocessor protective relay testing (preferred)
- Ability to lift 50 or more pounds regularly
- Ability to frequently stoop, bend, crouch, reach, handle objects, and maintain finger dexterity
- Ability to climb and work in high, exposed, or difficult-to-access locations
- Ability to work near medium and high voltage equipment and moving mechanical parts
- Constant ability to see details at close range and distance, hear, talk, and maintain depth perception
- Ability to work in variable outdoor conditions, including harsh weather and high noise environments
- Willingness to travel, including extended out-of-town stays as project needs require
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S. without requiring employer sponsorship

Salary: $92,091–$115,114 annually
