Assistant Commissioning Project Manager, HV

SOLV Energy seeks an Assistant Commissioning Project Manager to support the planning, execution, and oversight of testing and commissioning activities for utility-scale solar, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and high-voltage substation projects. Based remotely in California with onsite presence required at job sites, you will work alongside the Commissioning Manager and technical experts to ensure all systems are installed, tested, and commissioned to project specifications, safety standards, and industry best practices. This hybrid role involves managing commissioning teams, coordinating cross-functional stakeholders, and driving projects from commissioning through closeout.

Responsibilities

• Manage and supervise project commissioning teams, providing guidance and support for task execution
• Report daily commissioning status to the Commissioning Manager across assigned projects
• Review technical, contractual, and regulatory requirements; develop project commissioning plans, procedures, and milestone deliverables lists
• Communicate with OEM suppliers regarding equipment-specific testing and commissioning activities
• Coordinate with engineering, construction, and quality assurance teams to align commissioning efforts
• Develop and maintain integrated P6 testing and commissioning schedules; update weekly
• Develop commissioning resource plans
• Review initial energization procedures and assist with switching activities during facility hot commissioning
• Perform MVAC collection circuit and Aux Power circuit switching operations during hot commissioning; develop switching plans and LOTO procedures
• Manage pre-commissioning, cold, warm, and hot commissioning tests for BESS, HV, and PV systems, including synchronization, functional testing, utility capability testing, and project acceptance testing
• Identify, analyze, and recommend corrective actions for technical issues encountered during commissioning or initial operation
• Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety protocols, and environmental regulations
• Prepare detailed daily commissioning reports documenting test results, issues, and corrective actions
• Monitor project timelines and resources for successful delivery
• Maintain Lessons Learned and equipment warranty tracking logs
• Establish and manage Safety Tagging, Lockout, Red Rope, and Work Permit Programs from cold commissioning through Substantial Completion
• Support the development of standards and processes to improve business operations

Requirements

• Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in testing and commissioning of utility-scale electrical systems
• Knowledge and commissioning experience with utility-scale solar, battery storage, and high-voltage substations
• Knowledge and experience with HV and MV switching operations and equipment grounding
• Knowledge and experience managing site lockout/tag-out (LOTO) safety programs
• Knowledge and experience with substation protection and control (P&C) systems
• Knowledge of fiber installation and test requirements
• SCADA system understanding, testing, and commissioning
• DC systems architecture and testing knowledge
• Working knowledge of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and National Electrical Code (NEC) standards
• Working knowledge of IEEE, IES, and API standards
• Familiarity with NETA and IEEE standards for utility-scale solar generation, including transformers, MV and LV cabling, grounding, and solar-specific component testing
• Strong knowledge of electrical power systems, inverters, transformers, and electrical infrastructure
• Proven experience managing project teams and coordinating with multiple stakeholders
• Familiarity with DCS/SCADA control systems for utility-scale generation (preferred)
• Knowledge of microprocessor protective relay testing (preferred)
• Knowledge of NERC compliance standards and ISO/TSO testing and operational requirements (preferred)
• Ability to lift 50 or more pounds regularly
• Ability to perform frequent stooping, bending, crouching, reaching, climbing, and carrying
• Ability to work in high, exposed, or difficult-to-access locations
• Ability to work near moving mechanical parts and medium to high voltage equipment
• Ability to see details at close range and distance; depth perception required
• Occasional exposure to harsh outdoor environments and variable site conditions
• Willingness to travel extensively, including extended out-of-town stays as project needs require
• Legal authorization to work in the U.S. without employer sponsorship

Compensation: $92,091–$115,114 annually
