Solar Landscape, a leading commercial rooftop solar developer operating across a dozen U.S. states, is hiring a Solar Project Engineer based in Chicago, IL. This role focuses on the design, planning, and technical execution of utility-scale commercial rooftop PV systems, working within a team that prioritizes clear thinking and accountability to accelerate clean energy deployment.
Responsibilities
- Design and engineer commercial rooftop solar PV systems, including racking, electrical design, and structural analysis
- Prepare detailed system designs, electrical schematics, and interconnection documentation
- Conduct site assessments and feasibility studies for rooftop solar installations
- Coordinate with permitting authorities, utilities, and third-party engineers
- Support project managers and installation teams with technical guidance during construction
- Troubleshoot system performance issues and optimize designs for maximum energy yield
- Ensure all designs meet National Electrical Code (NEC), local building codes, and utility requirements
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or related field
- 2+ years of experience in solar PV system design or engineering
- Proficiency with PV design software (e.g., PVsyst, HELIOSCOPE, or equivalent)
- Knowledge of electrical design, DC/AC wiring, and interconnection standards
- Familiarity with commercial rooftop structural requirements and weight load analysis
- Strong understanding of NEC Article 690 (Solar Photovoltaic Systems)
- NABCEP PV Installation Professional certification or equivalent hands-on solar experience preferred
- Ability to read and interpret architectural and structural drawings
