Job Description

Solar Landscape, a leading commercial rooftop solar developer operating across a dozen U.S. states, is hiring a Solar Project Engineer based in Chicago, IL. This role focuses on the design, planning, and technical execution of utility-scale commercial rooftop PV systems, working within a team that prioritizes clear thinking and accountability to accelerate clean energy deployment.

Responsibilities

  • Design and engineer commercial rooftop solar PV systems, including racking, electrical design, and structural analysis
  • Prepare detailed system designs, electrical schematics, and interconnection documentation
  • Conduct site assessments and feasibility studies for rooftop solar installations
  • Coordinate with permitting authorities, utilities, and third-party engineers
  • Support project managers and installation teams with technical guidance during construction
  • Troubleshoot system performance issues and optimize designs for maximum energy yield
  • Ensure all designs meet National Electrical Code (NEC), local building codes, and utility requirements

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or related field
  • 2+ years of experience in solar PV system design or engineering
  • Proficiency with PV design software (e.g., PVsyst, HELIOSCOPE, or equivalent)
  • Knowledge of electrical design, DC/AC wiring, and interconnection standards
  • Familiarity with commercial rooftop structural requirements and weight load analysis
  • Strong understanding of NEC Article 690 (Solar Photovoltaic Systems)
  • NABCEP PV Installation Professional certification or equivalent hands-on solar experience preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural and structural drawings
