Job Description
AES is seeking a Solar Technician II to support operations and maintenance at the Hardy Hills utility-scale solar project in Frankfort, Indiana. In this role, you will perform corrective, preventive, and emergency maintenance on solar PV sites and associated substations, working with inverters, tracking systems, and high/medium/low voltage equipment. The position requires daily site commuting and up to 25% travel to support operations across AES's Indiana portfolio.
Responsibilities
- Perform maintenance and operations activities for utility-scale solar PV sites and substations
- Execute corrective, preventive, and emergency maintenance on site equipment
- Operate and maintain Power Electronic HEMK Gen3 inverters and Nextracker Tracking systems
- Work with high, medium, and low voltage switching equipment
- Prepare and implement switching and clearance orders
- Ensure compliance with environmental and safety standards during all work activities
- Work independently or collaboratively with field teams as assigned
Requirements
- 3 or more years of hands-on experience as a PV O&M solar technician
- 2-year technical degree or equivalent Journeyman electrical qualifications (preferred)
- Knowledge of electrical or mechanical fundamentals
- Familiarity with inverter and tracker operation and troubleshooting
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Ability to stand, walk, kneel, climb, and use protective equipment for extended periods
- Capacity to work around rotating, energized equipment, hazardous materials, and chemicals
- Willingness to work occasional overtime and non-standard hours
- Valid driver's license for daily commute to Frankfort, IN site and regional travel
