Construction Manager

AES, a global power company, seeks a Construction Manager for utility-scale solar and battery energy storage (BESS) projects in New York, NY. You will serve as the owner's representative overseeing third-party EPC contractors, managing on-site construction activities, coordinating with landowners and regulatory agencies, and ensuring project delivery within schedule, budget, and quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Serve as on-site owner's representative for utility-scale solar and BESS construction managed by third-party EPC contractors
• Establish and maintain transparent communication with project landowners regarding timelines, impacts, and progress; address landowner concerns including noise, dust, and property access issues
• Manage project execution plans, including schedules, kickoff meetings, and project closeout procedures
• Conduct and document daily safety walks; submit daily safety walk reports to internal safety leadership
• Verify and approve time records for on-site AES-hired contract employees (QC, Safety, Commissioning)
• Review and approve draft invoices from third-party EPC contractors
• Track project progress against schedule; identify and manage schedule remediation plans
• Verify and sign off on construction milestones (civil, structural, mechanical, electrical) and update internal tracking software
• Manage QA/QC compliance, punch lists, and commodity tracking throughout construction and closeout phases
• Collect, organize, and route third-party EPC deliverables (test reports, progress reports) to appropriate team members for sign-off
• Facilitate communication between regulatory agencies (DEQ, AHJ) and EPC contractors on environmental and community concerns
• Coordinate with in-house engineering; attend job walks and facilitate third-party independent engineer reports
• Review and approve monthly pencil copies with project management team
• Manage on-site monthly and weekly drone photo progress updates
• Proactively identify and assist EPC in managing site environmental and safety impacts
• Attend daily, weekly, and other internal and external meetings as necessary
• Discuss daily objectives with third-party EPC contractor; promptly report perceived risks and issues

Requirements

• 5+ years of on-site construction management experience on utility-scale solar, battery storage, and/or substation projects
• Advanced knowledge of solar construction management processes, means, and methods
• Expert knowledge of building products, construction details, and relevant rules, regulations, and quality standards
• OSHA 30 Certification
• FAA Part 107 license (or willingness to obtain if not already certified)
• Proficiency with Procore software and daily hands-on use
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
• Ability to operate a drone for photo progress documentation
• Ability to operate Google Earth
• Capability to conduct physically rigorous site inspections in various climates and environmental conditions
• Ability to work on-site 5 days per week and willing to travel as needed
• Bachelor of Science degree preferred, but not required
