Job Description
AES Corporation seeks a Construction Manager for utility-scale solar and battery energy storage (BESS) projects in Texas City, TX. You will serve as the on-site owner's representative overseeing third-party EPC contractor performance, managing construction schedules and budgets, coordinating with landowners and regulatory agencies, and ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and permit requirements on large-scale renewable energy installations.
Responsibilities
- Oversee on-site utility-scale solar and BESS construction performed by third-party EPC contractors, ensuring adherence to contract terms, permit requirements, schedule, budget, and scope of work
- Serve as primary point of contact for landowner communication, addressing concerns related to construction impacts, property access, dust, noise, and project timelines
- Conduct daily on-site safety walks and submit safety walk reports; verify that identified deficiencies are corrected and manage internal safety goals with EPC contractors
- Manage on-site contract employees hired by AES, including QC, safety, and commissioning staff; verify and approve time records weekly
- Prepare and manage the project execution plan in coordination with the PM team, including project schedule, kickoff meetings, and project closeout
- Verify and sign off on construction milestones (civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical); update internal tracking software and review progress against schedule
- Monitor QA/QC compliance and verify that work meets scopes of work and design plans; manage and minimize punch lists from Mechanical Completion through final delivery
- Facilitate communication between DEQ, AHJ, and EPC regarding environmental and community concerns
- Collect third-party EPC deliverables (test reports, progress reports, etc.) and route for appropriate sign-off; review and approve EPC invoices monthly
- Manage and coordinate all contracts (prime and subcontracts), including change orders and variance documentation; serve as first line of defense for proposed change orders
- Attend daily, weekly, and internal/external meetings as necessary; discuss daily objectives with EPC contractor and promptly report risks and issues
- Manage on-site monthly and weekly drone photo progress updates
- Maintain transparent communication with AES leadership and represent the company in accordance with AES Renewables & Power corporate values
Requirements
- 5+ years of on-site construction management on utility-scale solar, battery storage, and/or substation projects (large-scale power, oil & gas, or chemical construction project experience also considered)
- OSHA 30 certification
- Advanced knowledge of construction management processes, means, and methods
- Expert knowledge of building products, construction details, and relevant rules, regulations, and quality standards
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
- Knowledge of Procore software
- Ability to operate Google Earth and ARC GIS software
- FAA Part 107 remote pilot license (preferred)
- Ability to work in various climates and conduct physically rigorous site inspections and walkovers as necessary
- Willingness to travel and be on-site approximately 5 days per week
- Bachelor of Science degree (preferred, but not required)
