Job Description

AES is hiring a Solar & BESS Technician I for operations and maintenance work at the Bellefield Solar + Storage project in Mojave, CA. This role involves field-based O&M activities across utility-scale solar PV and battery energy storage systems in Southern California (Kern County, Antelope Valley, and Victor Valley areas). The position offers opportunity for professional growth as AES CE expands its independent power producer portfolio. Candidates must be based in or willing to relocate to the Lancaster/Mojave/Tehachapi area.

Responsibilities

  • Perform corrective, preventive, and emergency maintenance on solar PV, BESS, and substation equipment at utility-scale plants
  • Troubleshoot and repair inverters (SMA, Advanced Energy, Power Electronics, EATON, TMEIC, SunGrow, Solectria), trackers (NEXTracker, Voyager, ATI), combiner boxes, PV modules, and DC/AC collection equipment
  • Conduct routine electrical troubleshooting, instrumentation calibration, and basic inverter diagnostics
  • Prepare and implement switching and clearance orders
  • Operate electrical and mechanical power plant systems
  • Perform field work both independently and in crews, depending on skill level
  • Assist with site vegetation management using tractors, riding mowers, and related equipment as needed
  • Write or contribute to plant orders, procedures, and operating instructions
  • Ensure compliance with environmental and safety requirements
  • Participate in training and professional development as required

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Field experience in solar system installation and/or power plant operations
  • Basic knowledge of electrical or mechanical fundamentals (electrical measurements, control circuits, solid-state theory, or power equipment operating characteristics)
  • Experience with electrical systems and LOTO (lockout/tagout) safety protocols
  • Proficiency with personal computers and standard business software
  • SCADA and Computerized Maintenance Management System experience (preferred)
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English
  • Knowledge of applicable safety and environmental regulations
  • Capability to work at heights, in high/low ambient temperatures and humidity
  • Ability to stand, sit, walk, kneel, twist, climb stairs and ladders, and enter equipment enclosures
  • Ability to lift as appropriate to job duties
  • Willingness to work overtime and non-standard hours
  • Must be willing to work around rotating, energized equipment, hazardous materials, and chemicals while wearing required PPE (respirators, safety glasses, hard hat, appropriate footwear, ear plugs)
