Job Description

AES CE, a renewable energy operator headquartered in Salt Lake City, seeks a Solar Technician II for its Bakersfield, CA location. This role focuses on operations and maintenance of utility-scale solar photovoltaic plants in California's Central Valley and Kern County. The successful candidate will perform corrective, preventive, and emergency maintenance on field equipment, work independently and in crews, and may advance to training and leadership responsibilities as the company expands.

Responsibilities

  • Perform corrective, preventive, and emergency maintenance and operations on utility-scale solar equipment including inverters (HEC Power Electronics HEC 1500V, HEM AE 1000NX, AE 500NX, Eaton XPert 1670, Ingecon Sun 1110TL U B400, SMA 750CP, SMA SC2200-2750), DC combiner boxes, and trackers (ATI Trackers V2, V2.5, V3, NexTracker, First Solar)
  • Operate and maintain high, medium, and low voltage switching equipment
  • Conduct work independently or as part of field crews
  • Ensure all work complies with environmental and safety requirements
  • Perform technical and administrative duties associated with power facility operations and maintenance
  • Work at heights, in high/low ambient temperatures and humidity, and around rotating and energized equipment
  • Travel to sites outside the typical service area as needed
  • Work overtime and non-standard hours as required

Requirements

  • Two-year technical degree or equivalent
  • Journeyman qualifications in electrical or mechanical trade
  • Three or more years' experience as a PV O&M solar technician, OR five or more years' experience in a power plant plus one or more years' experience in PV solar O&M or construction
  • Demonstrated knowledge of electrical or mechanical fundamentals, including electrical measurements, control circuits, and solid state theory application
  • Basic knowledge of operational characteristics of equipment and associated control devices in power facilities
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English
  • Knowledge of applicable safety and environmental regulations
  • Proficiency with personal computers and standard business software
  • Physical capability to work outside in normal plant and office environments; stand, sit, walk, kneel, twist, climb stairs and ladders, and enter plant equipment for inspection and data collection
  • Ability to use personal protective safety equipment (respirators, safety glasses, hard hat, appropriate footwear, ear plugs)
  • Capability to work around hazardous materials and chemicals
  • Ability to lift as appropriate to job duties

Compensation: $35.00–$42.08 per hour, based on market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
