Job Description

AES Corporation seeks a Solar Technician II for operations and maintenance work at its Calhoun County Solar facility (13725 26 Mile Road, Albion, MI 49224). In this role, you will perform corrective, preventive, and emergency maintenance on utility-scale photovoltaic equipment and substations, including SunGrow inverters, Nextracker trackers, and associated electrical systems. Daily commuting to the Calhoun site is required; occasional travel to the Platteview project in Yutan, Nebraska may be needed.

Responsibilities

  • Execute assigned operations and maintenance activities for utility-scale solar PV sites and substations in Michigan
  • Perform corrective, preventive, and emergency maintenance on SunGrow 3150, SunGrow 3600, Nextracker XTR, and other inverter and tracker equipment
  • Conduct high, medium, and low voltage switching operations
  • Prepare and implement switching and clearance orders
  • Ensure all work complies with environmental and safety requirements
  • Work independently and as part of field crews
  • Perform technical and administrative duties associated with power facility operations and maintenance

Requirements

  • Three or more years of experience as a PV operations and maintenance solar technician, OR five or more years in a power plant with at least one year in PV solar O&M or construction
  • Demonstrated knowledge of electrical or mechanical fundamentals, including electrical measurements, control circuits, and solid-state theory application (single craft journeyman-level skills or equivalent)
  • Basic knowledge of operational characteristics of equipment and control devices installed in power facilities
  • Experience with multiphase electrical projects and construction work
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English
  • Knowledge of applicable safety and environmental regulations
  • Ability to operate personal computers and standard business software
  • Physical capability to work at heights, stand, walk, climb ladders and stairs, kneel, twist, lift as needed, and work in high/low temperatures and humidity
  • Ability to wear and work safely with personal protective equipment, including respirators, safety glasses, hard hats, ear protection, and appropriate footwear
  • Ability to work around rotating and energized equipment and hazardous materials
  • Willingness to work overtime and non-standard hours as required
  • Daily commute capability to Calhoun County Solar site location
