Construction Manager

AES, a leading US-based global power company with operations across 12 countries, is hiring a Construction Manager for its Arlington, VA office. You will oversee utility-scale solar and battery energy storage (BESS) construction projects as the owner's representative, managing third-party engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractors, coordinating with landowners and regulatory agencies, and ensuring compliance with contract terms, permits, safety standards, and project schedules.

Responsibilities

• Serve as on-site owner's representative for utility-scale solar and BESS construction managed by third-party EPC contractors
• Manage project execution plan, schedule, and deliverables; coordinate project kickoff and closeout
• Conduct daily on-site safety walks, submit daily safety walk reports, and manage internal safety goals with EPC contractors
• Establish and maintain transparent communication with project landowners regarding timelines, impacts, and progress; address and resolve landowner concerns (dust, noise, property access, boundary issues)
• Coordinate with regulatory agencies (DEQ, AHJ) and EPC contractors on environmental and community concerns
• Monitor and manage on-site monthly and weekly drone photo progress updates
• Manage and direct AES-hired on-site contract employees (QC, Safety, Commissioning); verify and approve time records
• Oversee all project contracts (prime and subcontracts), including change order review, documentation of variances, and invoice approval
• Track project progress against schedule; identify risks and develop schedule remediation plans
• Verify and sign off on construction milestones (civil, structural, mechanical, electrical); update internal tracking software
• Verify EPC contractor compliance with QA/QC plans and design specifications; minimize punch lists
• Manage ongoing punch list with EPC contractor from Mechanical Completion through project closeout
• Collect and route third-party EPC deliverables (test reports, progress reports, etc.) to appropriate team members for sign-off
• Attend internal and external meetings as required (daily, weekly, and as-needed)
• Collaborate with internal engineering and independent engineers; facilitate job walks and technical reviews

Requirements

• 5 years of on-site construction management experience with utility-scale solar, battery storage, and/or substation projects
• Advanced knowledge of solar construction management processes, means, and methods
• Expert knowledge of building products, construction details, relevant regulations, and quality standards
• OSHA 30 Certification
• Proficiency with Procore project management software
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
• Ability to operate drones for site photography (FAA Part 107 license preferred; may be required if not already held)
• Ability to operate Google Earth
• Ability to conduct physically rigorous site inspections and walk sites in various climates and environmental conditions
• Ability to work on-site 5 days per week and travel as needed
• Ability to quickly learn and adapt to changing software and technology
• Bachelor of Science degree preferred (not required)

Compensation: $108,000–$135,150 per year, based on experience, knowledge, skills, and market location.
