Job Description

Moss Construction, a national EPC firm headquartered in Fort Lauderdale, FL, seeks a Solar Mechanical Estimator to develop competitive cost proposals for utility-scale solar projects across the United States. You will evaluate mechanical design components, collaborate with racking and steel vendors and internal teams, and produce detailed estimating documentation to support the company's bid process.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and submit mechanical estimates for commercial solar farms, engaging with external racking and steel vendors and internal self-perform teams to establish profitable and competitive pricing
  • Research, write, and produce client-facing estimating documentation and proposals
  • Review owner specifications and develop clear scope-of-work and supporting bid documents for vendors
  • Compile and analyze racking company proposals, levelizing bid tabs to ensure fair competitive bidding
  • Communicate estimating results—numerical, verbal, and written—to management to inform racking partner selection
  • Maintain and develop vendor relationships throughout the bidding process
  • Monitor competitive procurement opportunities and circulate relevant bids to appropriate stakeholders
  • Stay current with solar racking technology, market updates, and industry developments to maintain competitive advantage
  • Build and improve reusable component libraries, templates, and processes to streamline future estimates
  • Coordinate with Director of Estimating, Sales, Procurement, Engineering, and Operations teams on project scope and expectations
  • Manage bid pipeline and maintain organized schedules to meet tight deadlines

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (BS/BA) in a relevant field or equivalent professional experience
  • Experience with utility-scale solar projects preferred
  • Demonstrated proficiency in technical writing, grammar, and spelling
  • Ability to prepare detailed cost analyses and bid comparisons
  • Proficiency with spreadsheet and estimating software tools
