Moss Construction, ranked by Engineering News-Record as the nation's top solar contractor, is hiring a Project Manager, Solar Preconstruction in Fort Lauderdale, FL. This dual-role position bridges early-stage project development and estimating for utility-scale solar EPC projects, managing the transition from pursuit through contract execution while leading a small team and coordinating across internal and external stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Lead review of project estimates and Owner proposals to align scope, design assumptions, and final contract value
- Manage and mentor direct reports, fostering professional growth and operational excellence
- Coordinate Owner contract review and negotiations with Legal, Contracts, Risk, and Operations teams
- Procure and manage Owner Provided Information, including surveys, geotechnical reports, and design criteria
- Oversee due diligence activities, including geotechnical testing, utility coordination, site investigations, and pile testing
- Develop baseline and target schedules in coordination with Engineering and Operations; align schedules with cash flow projections and material lead times
- Develop and execute Early Works Agreements, managing scope, insurance, scheduling, and vendor/consultant cost coordination
- Lead permitting process during preconstruction and coordinate handoff to execution team
- Maintain preconstruction logs (Budget Tracking, Exhibit Tracking, RFI Logs) and document control systems
- Facilitate recurring Owner meetings and provide weekly internal and external status reports on schedule, budget, and key issues
- Manage estimating process through design phases (conceptual, schematic, final contract pricing)
- Prepare cost summaries and budgets aligned with Owner bid forms and internal templates
- Track design progression estimates and conduct value-engineering analyses
- Coordinate with internal estimators and operations to ensure workflow alignment through milestone checkpoints
- Interface with subcontractors and vendors to obtain pricing and maintain prequalification relationships
- Support risk assessment, scope development, and pricing strategies to optimize competitiveness and margin
- Present bid summaries to leadership upon submission with financial and strategic analysis
- Act as central point of contact between Moss and project stakeholders during preconstruction
- Support Engineering, Procurement, and Operations teams with project planning and execution strategy
- Participate in project handoff meetings to ensure continuity from preconstruction into construction
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in construction management, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, business, or related field
- Minimum 4 years of experience in utility-scale solar EPC preconstruction, project management, or estimating
- Proficiency reading and interpreting construction plans and specifications
- Demonstrated experience with estimating software (HCSS Heavy Bid, Accubid) and scheduling tools (MS Project, Primavera)
- Proficiency with AGTEK, BlueBeam, InSite, and project management systems
- Proficiency with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and standard project management systems
- Strong estimating and scheduling knowledge
- Experience in cash flow analysis and margin optimization
- Relocation to South Florida preferred
