Job Description

AES is hiring a Solar & BESS Technician II for the Bellefield Solar + Storage Project in Mojave, CA. This role involves operations and maintenance across utility-scale solar PV and battery energy storage systems in Southern California's Kern County, Antelope Valley, and Victor Valley areas. You'll perform corrective, preventive, and emergency maintenance on inverters, trackers, combiner boxes, DC/AC collection systems, and HVAC/chiller equipment supporting battery storage, working both independently and as part of field crews.

Responsibilities

  • Perform corrective, preventive, and emergency maintenance on solar PV and BESS equipment, including inverters (SMA, Advanced Energy, Power Electronics, Eaton, TMEIC, SunGrow, Solectria), trackers (NEXTracker, ATI, First Solar), combiner boxes, PV modules, and DC/AC collection systems
  • Troubleshoot, operate, maintain, and repair HVAC and industrial chiller systems, including thermal management equipment, pumps, heat exchangers, cooling loops, control systems, and sensors in utility-scale BESS facilities
  • Perform routine electrical repair, instrumentation calibration, and basic inverter troubleshooting
  • Prepare and implement switching and clearance orders
  • Operate electrical and mechanical power plant systems
  • Support substation maintenance activities, including high-voltage equipment and switching operations
  • Assist with site vegetation management using tractors, mowers, and related equipment
  • Prepare and implement plant orders, procedures, and operating instructions
  • Participate in required training and technical/administrative duties associated with power plant operations
  • Ensure all work complies with environmental and safety requirements

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 2+ years of field experience as a solar technician or BESS technician in operations and maintenance, OR 5+ years in power generation
  • Demonstrated knowledge of electrical or mechanical fundamentals, including electrical measurements, control circuits, and electrical theory application
  • Basic experience working in electrical substations with high-voltage equipment and switching operations at utility-scale solar and BESS facilities
  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting and maintaining HVAC and industrial chiller systems in energy storage environments
  • Experience with SCADA and computerized maintenance management systems (highly recommended)
  • Proficiency with personal computers and standard business software
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English
  • Knowledge of applicable safety and environmental regulations
  • Capability to work at heights, in high/low ambient temperatures and humidity, and around rotating, energized equipment and hazardous materials
  • Ability to stand, walk, kneel, climb stairs and ladders, and lift as appropriate
  • Willingness to work overtime and non-standard hours
  • Residency in or willingness to relocate to the Lancaster/Mojave/Tehachapi area prior to start date

Compensation: $35.00–$42.07 per hour, depending on location, experience, and qualifications.
