Preconstruction Project Manager

The AES Corporation seeks a Preconstruction Project Manager for its New York office to oversee solar and energy storage projects from feasibility through engineering, procurement, and construction agreement execution. You will coordinate across development, engineering, procurement, and construction teams to advance renewable energy projects toward deployment, working with internal stakeholders and external EPC contractors to manage design reviews, permitting timelines, cost estimates, contract negotiations, and construction schedules.

Responsibilities

• Attend project kick-off meetings and manage project intake on behalf of the preconstruction team; record and report progress using project tracking tools
• Review project information, risks, and timelines; communicate project maturity and mitigation strategies to support execution goals
• Participate in permitting discussions to support design acceleration and timeline assumptions
• Coordinate with estimators and development teams to establish deliverables and facilitate RFP responses
• Provide due diligence support and risk assessment for M&A opportunities
• Develop working knowledge of utility interconnection processes and high-voltage system elements; maintain visibility on design and estimation progress
• Review design layouts and technical information for buildability and operational feasibility at multiple design stages
• Monitor equipment technologies, approved vendor lists, and commodity price and availability fluctuations
• Coordinate, prepare, and deploy EPC RFP bid packages via ProCore; facilitate RFI feedback from engineering and construction teams
• Analyze EPC bid responses and prepare bid summary reports with formal selection recommendations
• Negotiate and review EPC contract terms, conditions, and CAPEX cost reconciliations
• Establish EPC engagement paths in coordination with execution strategy and senior project management
• Prioritize projects and support financial modeling and budget monitoring with capex cost messaging
• Manage EPC target pricing, incorporating labor, material, indirect costs, domestic content, and prevailing wage considerations
• Develop preliminary project schedules incorporating design, utility, permitting, and EPC construction milestones; identify schedule risks and logistics challenges
• Build and maintain relationships with EPC contractors to support regional portfolio development

Requirements

• 4+ years of professional experience in renewable energy project management
• Demonstrated knowledge of the full project cycle: feasibility, permitting, entitlements, design, utility interconnection, and EPC contract execution
• Working familiarity with photovoltaic solar and energy storage system components and applicable technical standards
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Primavera P6, ProCore, Quickbase, and Microsoft Project
• Proficiency with PowerPoint and BlueBeam

Compensation: $118,500–$148,325/year, depending on experience, skills, market location, and individual factors.
