BESS Electrical Assistant Superintendent

Moss Construction, a national EPC firm headquartered in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, is hiring a BESS Electrical Assistant Superintendent to support large utility-scale solar projects across the United States. In this role, you will coordinate electrical installation activities, oversee quality and compliance, and mentor field teams on battery energy storage system (BESS) projects. This position requires 100% travel on rotational assignments.

Responsibilities

• Ensure high-quality installation of electrical components, including underground electrical collection systems
• Oversee drawing reviews, constructability assessments, submittal reviews, and quality verification against contract specifications
• Coordinate with the Electrical Superintendent and General Electrical Superintendent on project scheduling and 3-week look-ahead planning
• Support supervision of medium voltage cable installation, splicing, and termination activities
• Provide oversight on fiber optic cable installation, splicing, and termination
• Manage liaison activities between field engineers and contractors to ensure electrical work complies with drawings and specifications
• Monitor subcontractor procurement, methods, staffing, schedules, and coordination with other site activities
• Coordinate power grid connection activities with appropriate personnel and existing distribution systems
• Monitor safety, quality, and efficiency of subcontracted work
• Coach, mentor, and train field personnel, foremen, and assistant superintendents
• Produce operational documentation, including Sequence of Operation instructions and Methods of Operation (MOPs)
• Provide work direction and performance evaluations
• Participate in project meetings and maintain communication with customers, union representatives, architects, and subcontractors
• Identify staffing needs and participate in hiring, discipline, and dismissal decisions
• Develop leadership potential in team members through task assignments and career growth opportunities
• Manage open shop and union labor issues
• Run site work and logistics efficiently with recommendations for improvement
• Perform additional duties as assigned

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
• Minimum 2 years' hands-on experience with medium voltage equipment and cable installation on collection line construction
• Demonstrated experience supporting large self-perform utility solar projects
• Proficiency in installation, testing, acceptance, maintenance, and repair of medium voltage cables
• Working knowledge of cable and equipment testing methods: current injection, Hi-pot, capacitance discharge, contact resistance, Megger, TTR, and Doble
• Working knowledge of electrical drawings, sketches, and prints; underground duct banks, trenching, manholes, and vaults for distribution and collection systems; underground and pad mount transformer usage; SCADA systems; and testing and commissioning procedures
• Current valid driver's license
• Ability to travel 100% with rotational work schedules
• Ability to regularly stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach with hands and arms
• Ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds; occasional handling of heavier loads with assistance
• Ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments with exposure to varying weather conditions, moving mechanical parts, elevated work areas, loud noise levels, and extreme temperatures
