Job Description
Moss Construction, ranked among the nation's top solar contractors and top 50 general contractors, seeks a Safety Manager for Battery Energy Storage (BESS) projects based in Georgia. This role leads all Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) functions at assigned BESS project sites, implementing and sustaining Moss's safety programs while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and partnering with Operations, Electrical, and Commissioning teams to manage high-risk work.
Responsibilities
- Lead all EHS functions and serve as primary safety leader at the assigned BESS project site
- Implement and enforce the Site-Specific Safety Plan (SSSP), standard operating procedures, and BESS Standard Work Instructions (SWIs)
- Provide direction and oversight to site safety staff, including Safety Coordinators and Safety Professionals
- Drive field execution of key safety controls: electrical safety (NFPA 70E), energy control (LOTO), grounding and bonding awareness, BESS installation and commissioning safety, and subcontractor performance
- Support implementation of electrical safety requirements, including NFPA 70E expectations, LOTO procedures, barricading, and energy isolation controls
- Coordinate with electrical and commissioning teams to identify and manage risks related to interconnection, testing, and energization activities
- Partner with project leadership to align safety execution with schedule, manpower, and construction milestones
- Ensure compliance with applicable OSHA, state, and local safety requirements and Moss company standards
- Conduct routine field audits, inspections, and observations to verify control effectiveness and safe work practices
- Lead emergency response planning and execution for the job site
- Support incident reporting, investigations, and root cause analysis for site events and near misses
- Monitor leading and lagging indicators to identify trends and proactively address risk
- Conduct safety stand-downs, coaching, and field engagement as needed
- Maintain current safety documentation and support site readiness for internal and client audits
- Lead site-level safety meetings and coordinate with corporate and regional safety leadership
- Build working relationships with project operations, subcontractors, and client safety representatives
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of applicable EHS leadership experience
- CHST (Certified Health and Safety Technologist) certification at minimum; BCSP Certification preferred
- BS in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent (preferred)
- Working knowledge of OSHA 1926 requirements, particularly high-risk construction activities
- Working knowledge of NFPA 70E fundamentals
- Working knowledge of LOTO and energy isolation practices
- Working knowledge of electrical hazard controls in construction environments
- Experience supporting BESS, solar, substation, or industrial electrical projects strongly preferred
- CSP (Certified Safety Professional), SMP, or equivalent recognized safety certification preferred
- Experience with incident management systems, field audits, and client-facing safety coordination preferred
- Proficiency in verbal and written English; bilingual Spanish preferred
- Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record
- Ability to travel and work at assigned project locations as needed
