Solar Technician I

AES seeks a Solar Technician I for operations and maintenance work at its Armadillo Solar facility near Corsicana, Texas. This role involves hands-on maintenance, troubleshooting, and operation of utility-scale photovoltaic equipment and associated substation systems. The position requires daily commuting to the site, ideally within 45 minutes.

Responsibilities

• Perform corrective, preventive, and emergency maintenance and operations on solar PV equipment including inverters (SMA), trackers (Nextracker), combiner boxes, PV modules, DC collection systems, AC collection and distribution systems, and substation equipment
• Conduct electrical troubleshooting, repair, and instrumentation calibration on assigned equipment
• Execute inverter troubleshooting and diagnosis
• Prepare and implement switching and clearance orders
• Operate electrical and mechanical power plant systems
• Perform routine maintenance work as assigned by supervisor or work order management systems
• Participate in technical and administrative duties related to power plant operation and maintenance
• Assist with site vegetation management, including operation of tractors, riding mowers, and other equipment
• Develop and revise Plant Orders, Plant Procedures, Operating Instructions, and related documentation
• Ensure all work complies with environmental and safety requirements
• Work independently or in crews as directed
• Participate in required training

Requirements

• 1 or more years of hands-on experience with utility-scale solar photovoltaic power plants and substations, OR 5 or more years in power plant operations with 1 or more years in solar PV O&M or construction
• 2-year technical degree or equivalent journeyman qualifications
• Demonstrated knowledge of electrical or mechanical fundamentals, including electrical measurements, control circuits, and solid-state theory application
• Basic knowledge of operational characteristics of power generation equipment and associated control devices
• Experience with SCADA systems and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (highly recommended)
• Proficiency with personal computers and standard business software
• Knowledge of LOTO (lockout/tagout) and electrical safety principles
• Ability to read, write, and understand English
• Knowledge of applicable safety and environmental regulations
• Ability to work outside in varying ambient temperatures and humidity
• Ability to stand, sit, walk, kneel, twist, climb stairs and ladders, and enter equipment for inspection and data collection
• Ability to use personal protective equipment including respirators, safety glasses, hard hat, and ear plugs
• Occasional lifting as required to perform duties
• Availability to work overtime and non-standard hours, including night shifts
• Willingness to travel to sites outside the typical work area
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for daily commute within 45 minutes
