Assistant Commissioning Project Manager, PV

The Assistant Commissioning Project Manager, PV role at SOLV Energy is a hybrid position with partial remote work in California and required onsite presence at job sites for utility-scale projects. The position supports the Commissioning Manager in planning, executing, and overseeing testing and commissioning for PV, battery energy storage systems, and high-voltage substation work, including management of project-level teams through project closeout.

Responsibilities

• Manage the project commissioning team and report daily status to the Commissioning Manager
• Review technical, contractual, and regulatory requirements and assist in developing project milestone lists, commissioning plans, and procedures
• Communicate with OEM suppliers on equipment-specific testing and commissioning activities
• Coordinate with engineering, construction, and quality assurance teams on commissioning alignment
• Assist in developing integrated P6 testing and commissioning schedules and update them weekly
• Assist in developing the commissioning resource plan for the project
• Review initial energization procedures and assist with switching activities as requested
• Perform switching activities of MVAC collection circuits and Aux Power circuits during hot commissioning
• Develop switching plans and LOTO procedures as required
• Identify and recommend corrective actions for technical issues during commissioning or initial operation
• Manage all pre-commissioning, cold, warm, and hot commissioning tests including synchronization, functional testing, utility capability testing, and project acceptance testing for BESS, HV, and PV systems
• Ensure commissioning activities comply with industry standards, safety protocols, and environmental regulations
• Prepare detailed daily commissioning reports and review test results
• Monitor project timelines and resources for successful delivery
• Prepare and maintain lessons learned and equipment warranty tracking logs
• Establish and manage safety tagging, lockout, red rope, and work permit programs through substantial completion

Requirements

• Minimum 3 years of experience in testing and commissioning on utility-scale electrical systems
• Knowledge of commissioning for utility-scale solar, battery storage, and high-voltage substations
• Knowledge and experience with HV and MV switching operations and equipment grounding
• Knowledge and experience with site lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) safety program procedures
• Knowledge and experience with substation protection and control (P&C) systems
• Knowledge of fiber installation and test requirements
• SCADA system understanding, testing, and commissioning requirements
• DC systems architecture and testing requirements
• Knowledge of NFPA/NEC, IEEE/IES/API, NETA, and IEEE standards related to utility-scale solar generation, transformers, MV and LV cabling, grounding, and solar component testing
• Understanding of commercial performance of power plants
• Working knowledge of NERC compliance standards along with ISO and TSO testing and operational requirements
• Occasional exposure to weather, harsh outdoor environments, and variable site conditions
• Frequent stooping, bending, crouching, reaching, handling, finger dexterity, sitting, standing, walking, and lifting 50 or more lbs
• Constant finger dexterity, ability to see details at close range and distance, hear, talk, and possess depth perception
• Occasional climbing, carrying, proximity to moving mechanical parts, and work in high, exposed, or difficult-to-access places
• Work near medium and high voltage, on or near lifts and other machines
• Extended out-of-town travel and onsite presence throughout the testing and commissioning process as project needs dictate
• Legally authorized to work in the U.S. without employer sponsorship now or in the future
