Job Description
The Lead BESS Technician role at Pearce Services is located in Houston, Texas. This position leads electrical and mechanical work on battery energy storage systems and related mission-critical infrastructure, with up to 100 percent travel required across the United States in assignments lasting four to six weeks at a time. Pearce delivers maintenance, repair, and commissioning services for BESS, UPS systems, generators, and electrical infrastructure serving renewable energy, telecom, and data center clients.
Responsibilities
- Lead crews of 5 to 40 or more technicians on BESS and electrical infrastructure projects.
- Supervise subcontractors and coordinate multiple trades during project execution.
- Plan daily work activities and manage overall project timelines in the field.
- Handle customer communications and manage on-site expectations.
- Train and mentor junior technicians on electrical and mechanical tasks.
- Enforce safety protocols and maintain compliance with OSHA standards.
- Oversee multiple projects at once while tracking progress and resources.
- Perform electrical troubleshooting using multimeters, clamp meters, insulation resistance testers, power quality analyzers, and thermal imaging equipment.
Requirements
- 5 or more years of experience leading teams or supervising field personnel.
- 6 or more years of hands-on electrical work with medium- to high-voltage systems and components.
- 6 or more years of experience with utility-scale BESS, mission-critical electrical infrastructure, hyperscale or enterprise data centers, or UPS systems.
- Experience in electrical and mechanical construction and commissioning.
- Experience troubleshooting refrigeration systems on CRAH, CRAC, or commercial and industrial HVAC equipment.
- Military background in electrical power generation, industrial maintenance, nuclear operations, avionics, telecommunications, power distribution, shipboard electrical systems, or HVAC.
- Valid driver’s license held for at least one year.
- Ability to work prolonged standing shifts in ergonomically challenging positions and in varied climates.
- One or more of the following certifications: OSHA 30 (OSHA 10 minimum), NFPA 70E, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), EPA Section 608 Universal, NETA, NICET, PMP, Electrical Journeyman License, Electrical Contractor License, or State Electrical License.
