Job Description

Sunrun is hiring a Solar Sales Representative for residential solar and battery storage sales in San Luis Obispo, California. This is a direct seller, commission-only position. Candidates without a valid California Home Improvement Salesperson (HIS) license begin in a Sales Scheduler role at minimum wage, capped at 35 hours per week, and transition to the sales role upon obtaining the license.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage assigned residential sales territory
  • Conduct door-to-door outreach, network in the community, and follow up on customer referrals
  • Track sales activities and meet established performance targets
  • Present solar and battery storage solutions to homeowners, explain financing options, and guide customers through the purchase process
  • Educate homeowners on cost savings, clean energy benefits, and energy independence from residential solar and storage systems
  • Attend weekly training meetings to maintain skills and support performance

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Experience in direct or commission-based sales preferred
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes evenings and weekends
  • Physical ability to work outdoors and walk for extended periods in varying weather conditions
  • Valid California Home Improvement Salesperson (HIS) license required; applicants without the license are initially placed in the Sales Scheduler position until the license is obtained

  • Commission-only compensation with average first-year earnings of $60,000 to $100,000 and California first-12-month average of $60,000 to $90,000, both dependent on individual performance; top 10% of new hires average $205,020 and top performers reach $300,000 or more
