Job Description

The Solar & BESS Technician II position at AES is based in Lancaster, CA, and supports operations for AES CE, a renewable energy company headquartered in Salt Lake City. The role focuses on maintenance and operations for solar photovoltaic and battery energy storage systems in the existing portfolio. AES maintains standards for ethical operations across its facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Perform corrective, preventive, and emergency maintenance on EPC inverters, CATL batteries, Samsung batteries, Fluence Interface (DAS), SUNGROW inverters, and high/medium/low voltage switching equipment.
  • Conduct electrical troubleshooting, insulation testing, ATI tracker work, and apply electrical theory during operations.
  • Navigate software platforms and vendor portals as part of daily facility tasks.
  • Carry out technical and administrative duties required to operate and maintain a power facility.
  • Ensure all work meets environmental and safety requirements.
  • Complete assignments independently or as part of a crew.
  • Work overtime, non-standard shifts, on-call rotations, and during emergency outages as needed.
  • Travel to sites outside the typical service area.

Requirements

  • Two-year technical degree or equivalent journeyman qualifications.
  • Three or more years of experience as a PV O&M solar technician.
  • Five or more years of experience in a power plant plus one or more years in PV solar O&M or construction.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of electrical or mechanical fundamentals, including electrical measurements, control circuits, and solid state theory.
  • Basic knowledge of operational characteristics of equipment and associated control devices in power facilities.
  • Experience with multiple electrical or construction projects and basic IT equipment.
  • Proficiency with personal computers and standard business software.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English.
  • Knowledge of applicable safety and environmental regulations.
  • Capability to work outdoors in high or low ambient temperatures and humidity, at heights, while standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, climbing stairs and ladders, and accessing plant equipment.
  • Ability to use personal protective equipment including respirators, safety glasses, hard hat, appropriate footwear, and ear plugs.
  • Capacity to work around rotating and energized equipment, hazardous materials, and chemicals.
  • Ability to lift as needed to perform duties.
