Job Description

The Solar & BESS Technician II role at AES is based in Adelanto, CA, and supports O&M activities for utility-scale solar energy plants in California's Central Valley and Kern County. AES CE, headquartered in Salt Lake City, maintains this position within its operations team for a growing renewable energy portfolio. The role requires hands-on field experience with PV systems and associated equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform corrective, preventive, and emergency maintenance on utility-scale solar equipment including Power Electronics HEC, HEC 1500V, HEM, AE 1000NX, AE 500NX, Eaton XPert 1670, Ingecon Sun 1110TL, U B400, SMA 750CP, SMA SC2200-2750, DC combiner boxes, ATI Trackers V2/V2.5/V3, NexTracker, First Solar Tracker, and high/medium/low voltage switching.
  • Conduct assigned O&M activities at solar energy plants while ensuring compliance with environmental and safety requirements.
  • Execute technical and administrative duties required to operate and maintain a power facility, working independently or in crews.
  • Perform work at heights, in varying temperatures and humidity, and around rotating equipment, energized systems, hazardous materials, and chemicals as needed.
  • Work overtime and non-standard hours, and travel to sites outside the typical area when required.

Requirements

  • Possess a 2-year technical degree or equivalent journeyman qualifications.
  • Hold three or more years of experience as a PV O&M solar technician, or five or more years in a power plant with at least one year in PV solar O&M or construction.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of electrical or mechanical fundamentals including single-craft journeyman skills such as electrical measurements, control circuits, and solid-state theory application.
  • Show basic knowledge of operational characteristics of equipment and control devices in power facilities.
  • Operate personal computers with standard business software proficiency and read, write, and understand English.
  • Know applicable safety and environmental regulations.
  • Work outside in normal plant or office environments, including standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, climbing stairs and ladders, and entering plant equipment.
  • Use personal protective safety equipment including respirators, safety glasses, hard hat, appropriate footwear, and ear plugs.
  • Occasionally lift as required to perform duties.

  • Expected hourly pay at commencement between $35.00 and $42.08, with potential variation based on location, knowledge, skills, and experience.
