Experienced Critical Power Field Technician (UPS Field Engineer)

Pearce Services, a wholly owned subsidiary of CBRE Group, Inc., is hiring an Experienced Critical Power Field Technician (UPS Field Service Engineer) to serve customers in Richmond, Virginia, and the surrounding region. The position covers preventive maintenance, emergency service, commissioning support, and battery services on UPS systems, DC power systems, battery plants, PDUs, and static transfer switches at data centers, telecommunications facilities, healthcare facilities, and industrial sites. Pearce maintains more than 4,000 employees across 28 U.S. locations and provides services for uninterruptible power supply systems, backup generators, battery energy storage systems, and other mission-critical electromechanical infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Conduct preventive maintenance, inspections, testing, troubleshooting, and repairs on UPS systems, battery plants, DC power systems, PDUs, static transfer switches, inverters, and associated critical power equipment.
• Identify electrical and control system faults by reviewing schematics, operating test equipment, consulting manufacturer documentation, and applying industry practices.
• Install, commission, and replace UPS systems, battery strings, battery monitoring systems, maintenance bypass equipment, and related power infrastructure.
• Answer emergency service calls and return customer systems to service while following all safety and quality protocols.
• Carry out battery testing, capacity testing, failure analysis, and lifecycle replacement services.
• Prepare service reports, maintenance records, and customer communications with accuracy and professionalism.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, company safety procedures, and customer site requirements at all times.
• Assist with additional field service tasks as business needs change.

Requirements

• Minimum three years of hands-on experience servicing UPS systems, battery systems, DC power equipment, generators, switchgear, data center infrastructure, or other mission-critical electrical infrastructure.
• Preferred experience with equipment from Eaton, Vertiv/Liebert, Schneider Electric/APC, Mitsubishi, Toshiba, ABB, or comparable critical power platforms.
• Understanding of AC and DC electrical theory, power distribution systems, and battery technologies.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
• Experience operating multimeters, power quality analyzers, battery testing equipment, and other diagnostic tools.
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record and ability to meet company vehicle requirements.
• Ability to pass all required pre-employment screenings, including drug screening and background check where applicable.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, or move equipment and materials up to 100 pounds with or without assistance.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, reach overhead, and work in confined or restricted-access areas for extended periods.
• Ability to work safely around energized electrical equipment in mission-critical environments.
• Willingness to travel throughout the assigned service territory, including occasional overnight and multi-day travel; per diem provided for qualifying travel.
• Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation and respond to customer emergencies when required.
• Ability to obtain and maintain security clearance access to customer facilities including data centers, telecommunications sites, healthcare facilities, industrial locations, and government installations.
