Job Description

Pearce Services, a subsidiary of CBRE, is hiring an Experienced Critical Power Field Technician (UPS Field Service Engineer) based in Raleigh, NC, to serve customers across the region. The role focuses on preventive maintenance, emergency service, commissioning, and battery work for UPS systems, DC power systems, battery plants, PDUs, and static transfer switches in data centers, telecom facilities, healthcare sites, and industrial locations. Technicians work independently in mission-critical environments with travel throughout the assigned territory and occasional overnight stays, plus participation in an on-call rotation.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, testing, troubleshooting, and repairs on UPS systems, battery plants, DC power systems, PDUs, STS units, inverters, and related critical power equipment.
  • Diagnose electrical and control system faults using schematics, test equipment, manufacturer documentation, and industry best practices.
  • Install, commission, and replace UPS systems, battery strings, battery monitoring systems, maintenance bypass equipment, and associated power infrastructure.
  • Respond to emergency service calls and restore customer systems to operational status.
  • Perform battery testing, capacity testing, failure analysis, and lifecycle replacement services.
  • Complete service reports, maintenance documentation, and customer communications.
  • Maintain compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, company safety procedures, and customer site requirements.
  • Mentor junior technicians on troubleshooting techniques, safety practices, and technical knowledge.
  • Support additional field service activities as business and customer needs evolve.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3+ years of hands-on experience servicing UPS systems, battery systems, DC power equipment, generators, switchgear, data center infrastructure, or other mission-critical electrical infrastructure.
  • Experience supporting equipment from manufacturers such as Eaton, Vertiv/Liebert, Schneider Electric/APC, Mitsubishi, Toshiba, ABB, or comparable critical power platforms.
  • Strong understanding of AC and DC electrical theory, power distribution systems, and battery technologies.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Experience using multimeters, power quality analyzers, battery testing equipment, and other diagnostic tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently troubleshoot and resolve complex electrical and electronic system failures.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record and willingness to travel within the assigned service territory, including occasional overnight travel.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and/or move equipment and materials weighing up to 100 pounds with or without assistance.
  • Ability to frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, reach overhead, and work in confined or restricted-access areas.
  • Ability to work safely around energized electrical equipment and within mission-critical customer environments.
  • Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation and respond to customer emergencies.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain security clearance access to customer facilities.
