Job Description

The Residential Electrician role at Sunrun is based in Palatine, IL and focuses on electrical work for residential solar and battery installations. The position requires leading or assisting with main panel upgrades, system commissioning, and electrical troubleshooting while ensuring compliance with national and local codes. The role reports to branch operations and includes filling in on PV crews as needed, with 5% travel expected.

Responsibilities

  • Lead installation of electrical systems interconnecting solar arrays to residential grid power
  • Ensure all work meets current NEC and local building codes with good workmanship
  • Plan and complete solar battery installations and main panel upgrades as assigned per state certification rules
  • Troubleshoot system problems and resolve electrical issues
  • Coordinate with branch teams and homeowners on system upgrades or repairs
  • Work with local inspectors to meet jurisdiction requirements
  • Apply OSHA standards for photovoltaic installations and enforce safety practices

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Possess 75% of the hours required to sit for state-specific electrical certification exams
  • Electrical installation and repair experience required
  • Experience with electrical work involving wiring up to 600 VDC and 480 VAC
  • Working knowledge of replacing residential electrical services and distribution panels preferred
  • Working knowledge of current NEC codes and ability to interpret single-line drawings and PV systems from roof to meter
  • Ability to transport materials and equipment up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds with assistance
  • Ability to work on rooftops with various angles requiring frequent bending, twisting, squatting, climbing, kneeling, crawling, and standing
  • Ability to work in confined spaces such as attics, basements, and crawl spaces
  • Ability to work in outdoor conditions including excessive noise, extreme temperatures, wet environments, and humidity
  • Ability to work while wearing heavy protective equipment such as arc flash suits, gloves, and face shields
  • Ability to maintain balance on roofs and other elevated areas
  • Ability to distinguish colors including red, black, yellow, white, and green
  • Ability to hear verbal commands and warnings
  • Clean driving record and ability to pass a driving background check
  • 21 years of age with a valid driver’s license
  • Certified electrical trainee preferred or required depending on state requirements
  • Starting wage $29.05 to $38.73
