Solar Technician I

The Solar Technician I role at AES is based in Kuna, Idaho, and supports operations and maintenance for a utility-scale solar PV site and associated substations. A company vehicle and gas card are provided for commuting. The position includes work on PV modules, inverters, trackers, DC and AC collection systems, transformers, and battery energy storage equipment.

Responsibilities

• Perform corrective, preventive, and emergency maintenance on inverters, trackers, combiner boxes, PV modules, transformers, battery modules, DC collection equipment, and AC collection and distribution systems.
• Execute routine maintenance including electrical troubleshooting, instrumentation calibration, and basic inverter troubleshooting as assigned through the maintenance management system.
• Prepare and perform switching on HV, MV, and LV equipment while following established LOTO procedures for equipment clearance.
• Issue and follow Job Safety Analysis, Work Authorization, Confined Space, and Hot Work Permits according to site safety procedures.
• Operate electrical and mechanical power plant systems in compliance with NERC standards and report to required entities.
• Write and assist with plant orders, procedures, operating instructions, and documentation as assigned.
• Organize and maintain files, drawings, and other documentation; order and coordinate materials and services for repairs and maintenance.
• Collect and analyze data to optimize processes while ensuring work meets environmental and safety requirements.
• Work independently or in crews as needed, including overtime, non-standard hours, call-outs, and travel to other sites.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• One or more years of experience as a PV O&M solar technician or three or more years of experience in a power plant; utility-scale project experience is a plus.
• Knowledge of electrical and mechanical fundamentals including electrical measurements, control circuits, solid-state theory, and operational characteristics of power plant equipment.
• Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, electrical single-line diagrams, and schematic drawings.
• Understanding of NEC codes and NFPA 70E practices.
• Experience with electrical systems and LOTO and electrical safety principles.
• Proficiency with personal computers and standard business software; SCADA and computerized maintenance management systems experience is recommended.
• Knowledge of applicable safety and environmental regulations.
• Capability to work outdoors in high or low temperatures and humidity, at heights, on ladders and stairs, and in confined spaces while wearing required PPE.
• Ability to stand, sit, walk, kneel, twist, climb, and perform occasional lifting as required for equipment access and inspections.
• Availability to work around rotating and energized equipment, hazardous materials, and chemicals as needed.
